Museum Specialist Salary $16.19 Hourly Location Youngstown, OH Job Type Classified Job Number 202300214 Division Academic Affairs Department Smith Museum Operation Opening Date 06/06/2024 Bargaining Unit Status Association of Classified Employees (ACE) Salary Grade n/a Full-time Equivalency .48 DESCRIPTION BENEFITS QUESTIONS Summary of Position The class works under general supervision and requires knowledge of museum management and public relations as well as a genuine interest in minerals and fossils in order to manage the operations of the Clarence R. Smith Mineral Museum. Position Information Essential Functions and Responsibilities: 50% - Oversees the daily functions of the museum; opens, closes, sets hours, and supervises student employees. Responds to public, professional, and scholarly inquiries. 50% - Schedules and coordinates events; develops and implements programs and activities for K-12 and adult audiences, both at the museum and through public outreach. Develops, evaluates, and tests educational materials. Other Functions and Responsibilities: Performs other related duties as assigned. Equipment Operated: Computer and all other standard office equipment. Work Schedule: M-W-F, flexible scheduling based on needs of museum (about 19 hours per week), occasional Saturday hours. Supervision Exercised: May exercise supervision over student employees. Reports to: Chairperson, Physics, Astronomy, Geology, and Environmental Sciences Qualifications and Competencies Required Certifications, Training, and/or Licensures: None Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of: appropriate security practices; museum operating procedures. * Skill in: written and verbal communication; Microsoft Office; social media. Ability to: carry out a variety of instructions; answer routine inquiries; develop materials for community engagement. (*) Developed after employment. Minimum Qualifications: At least a bachelor's degree; previous experience with responsibility over stock/holdings/inventory; genuine interest in minerals and fossils.
