Summary of Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Manager, Respiratory Therapy provides and demonstrates operational excellence in effective management of fiscal, material, information systems, and human resources for delegated areas. Demonstrates strong leadership skills in team building, delegation, communication, and conflict management. Contributes to meeting the ministry’s mission and goals, as well as meeting the requirements of JCAHO, CAP, NRBC, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulatory and/or accrediting agencies.
Essential Job Functions
Ensures 24-hour respiratory care coverage for patient care areas and needs. This includes assigning respiratory care staff and adjusting staff scheduling to operate efficiently to meet patient and hospital demand.
Responsible for interviewing/selecting/hiring staff, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; adhering to policies and procedures.
Creates and maintains a motivational and supportive working environment for staff through the dissemination of information, in-services, and competency programs that includes any required topics or other pertinent subjects for staff.
Meets respiratory therapy operational standards by developing department policies, procedures, and safety initiatives. Contributes information to strategic plans and reviews; implements production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolves problems; identifies system improvements.
Demonstrates a strong customer driven approach in the management of areas of responsibility.
Integrates the BSMH Mission into strategic and operational planning and decisions.
Knowledgeable in performance improvement and continuous improvement concepts and utilizes these skills in problem identification and improvement in work processes and outcomes. Collects and compiles Performance Improvement data and uses that data to set performance improvement goals and projects.
Knowledgeable about regulatory standards effecting Respiratory Care Services.
Actively participates in facility councils and committees.
Provides clinical instruction and/or in-service training to department staff, other healthcare team members, and students. May provide support to clinical learning through mentorship, clinical rounds and practice evaluation provides clinical leadership for the advancement of professional respiratory practice to staff in the intensive care, general care, and outpatient services.
Supports and assists team with RRT duties as needed. Competent in and current with knowledge and skills of Respiratory Care. Adheres to the standards of ethical conduct for the practice of Respiratory Care as adopted by the state’s Respiratory Care Board. Demonstrates knowledge of growth and developmental needs through clinical interaction with patients.

Current Respiratory Care License in the state they are working (required)
National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) Credentialed (required)
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) (required)
BLS Basic Life Support - American Heart Association (required)
ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support - American Heart Association or Red Cross (required)
PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (required)
NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AAP/AWHONN (preferred)
Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) (preferred)
Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) (preferred)
ACCS (Adult Critical Care Specialist) - NBRC (preferred)
Valid driver’s license (required for Home Care/DME)
Education
Graduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care (required)
Bachelor's Degree in a related field (preferred)
Master's Degree in a related field (preferred)
Work Experience
Five years of experience as a Respiratory Care Professional (required)
Competency in at least two of the following environments: Nursery/NICU, PICU, ICU/CCU, ED, and general care areas. (required)
Five years in a leadership role (required)
Training
EPIC Electronic Health Record (EHR) training (preferred)

Knowledge of non-invasive respiratory therapy equipment such as oximeters or end-tidal CO2 analyzers
Therapeutic Procedures to include CPAP/BiPap, jet aerosol, oxygen therapy, incentive spirometry, chest physiotherapy, pulse oximetry, high flow oxygen, continuous aerosols, ventilator management, diagnostic testing.
Understanding of EKGs, electronic monitoring, lead placement, and basic arrhythmias.
