Yankton Rural Area Health Education Center Associate Director, Programing in Yankton, South Dakota

Summary : Working closely with Southeast Dakota Area Health Education Center (SESD AHEC) staff to develop, implement, and manage the Rural Experiences for Health Professions Students (REHPS) program, SCRUBS Camp and Camp Med under contract from the state of South Dakota, Department of Health, Office of Rural Health, Disaster Training Day, under contract from the State of South Dakota, Department of Health, Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response.

Programs are to be managed in a fiscally responsible manner to meet specific program requirements. In coordination with the Executive Director, Grants Manager and representatives from the SD Office of Rural Health (SD ORH), schedules and completes off-site visits with existing and prospective stakeholders and organization staff to facilitate and promote growth of the program and SESD AHEC. Populations of focus include medical students, physical assistant students, pharmacy students, advanced practice nursing students, as well as students representing other health professions disciplines in South Dakota from both public and private colleges and universities along with K-12 students and adult community members.

Education/Licensure : Bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, or commensurate experience/education. Continuing education is required to stay abreast of healthcare trends, sales, marketing and regulatory changes.

Experience : Prefer individual with a variety of experiences in healthcare or education settings. Individual should have management experience. Individual must be computer literate and be able to use Microsoft products and navigate a Windows environment. Excellent public speaking skills required.

Skills/Abilities : Individual must have strong oral and written communication skills. Requires ability to read and interpret documents, correspondence, contracts, and manuals. Individual must be organized, and have the ability to take a project from inception to completion. Individual must be able speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization. Individual will have the ability to use basic and advanced mathematical concepts including the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to compose and interpret graphs. Position requires the ability to deal with problems involving several variables in a variety of situations. Employee is required to work with minimal supervision.

While performing the duties of the position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, and use fine and gross motor skills. The employee may be required to bend, twist, push, carry and/or move up to 40 pounds. Considerable time is spent using the telephone and a keyboard.

Travel : Travel demands will vary; at time it will be heavy. Travel will be predominantly in South Dakota with limited travel to other areas of the United States. Employee must maintain a current driver's license and possess current vehicle liability insurance.

Work Environment : Employee may be exposed to communicable diseases when working in a healthcare environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Employee is expected to utilize effective problem solving skills as appropriate and model professional behavior at all times when representing SESD AHEC. Employee will convey enthusiasm and sincere support for SESD AHEC and its services to all stakeholders. Employee will support the mission and vision of SESD AHEC to stakeholders, co-workers and peers in the communities we serve. Employee must be flexible to change and have t e ability to work in a team environment. Employee is required to comply with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, and applicable standards for the profession represented. Employee will strive to coordinate workflow with other team members to ensure a productive and efficient environment. Employee is consistently attentive to SESD AHEC fiscal/budgetary expectations. Employee is expected to attend training and education to maintain a high level of professional proficiency in their work. Employee must display appropriate time management. Grooming, communications skills, and dress must portray a professional demeanor.

  • With allied organizations such as SD ORH, SDAHO, USD Sanford School of Medicine, SD AHEC Program Office, USD and SDSU Allied Health, the major health systems as well as independent facilities.
