Job Purpose

Supervise department team members and manage these departments to successfully achieve the production schedule targets while ensuring stock outs are replenished and customer deliveries are achieved on time. Coach and lead team members in a positive environment that leads to the departments achieving plant and company goals via high levels of performance.

Principal Accountabilities

• Facilitate the execution of the short- and long-term production plan so that output meets production plan and manufacturing orders are completed according to promise dates.

• Generate Movex/Cognos/Net Reports as needed to manage the department.

• Communicate and prioritize maintenance work.

• Prioritize setup work with lead operators.

• Overcome obstacles such as tooling constraints, absences, and machine breakdowns.

• Identify resource constraints and develop recommendations to address.

• Monitor and ensure productivity levels are maintained at high standards.

• Foster injury-free culture through safety programs, fostering awareness and the implementation of continuous improvements.

• Ensure compliance to safety rules and coach safe behavior.

• Responsible for all aspects of departmental safety, health and environmental related items, PBSA’s Safety training/talks, and improvement of equipment/production methods.

• Insure that 5S housekeeping standards are met and sustained.

• Monitor daily operations. Provide training around safety.

• Write, review and revise SOP’s and JSA’s.

• Communicate with inside sales regarding issues such as expedites, lead time quotes, order status and machine/process capability.

• Create the environment for success and lead, coach and develop team members to meet the business objectives in a team atmosphere.

• Manages all aspects of department personnel including hiring, documentation and discipline, payroll/timesheets, employee training, team-building, scheduling, mentoring, employee records, employee performance, performance reviews, etc.

• Manage and maintain employee work schedule (overtime, vacation, etc.) and process weekly timecards and attendance records.

• Ensure resources are in-line with demand and continuous improvement in productivity is achieved.

• Member of Site Leadership Team. Involvement in Plant decision making, goal setting and management via formal daily and monthly meetings as well as other impromptu meetings regarding urgent matters. Responsible for the plant’s performance as a member of this team.

• Assists in preparing departmental expense and capital budgets, forecast headcount requirements, equipment upgrades/purchases and reviews monthly expenses to insure in-line with sales and manufacturing levels/budget.

• Sponsor Continuous Improvement Efforts in the form of ISO, TPEM, 5S, Green belt etc. Develop and assist in implementing quality, yield, cost, process and safety improvements.

• Provide input to Capex budgeting.

• Evaluate errors and non-conformities as they occur and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.

• Assists engineering in project testing, capacity constraints, tooling, etc.

• Safety, as measured by level of incidents, hazard assessment inspections, safety awareness, employee behavior in the department, and the completion of an agreed upon target of Behavior Assessments.

• Training of new and transferred employees.

• Understanding of safety programs and requirements in an industrial workplace.

• Planning of production via Manufacturing Order scheduling and release in FFM Department as well as Extrusion Department.

• Housekeeping – 5S excellence – as measured by 5S audits conducted, scores achieved and level of full implementation and culture for 5S systems in department.

• Employees buy-in and adherence to 5S principles.

• Any Personal Objectives as agreed to between incumbent and manager.

• Quality, as measured by the relationship between Customer Complaints and Order Entry Line Items and overall Credit Dollars. As well as employees following procedures and quality control policies.

• Use root cause analysis to correct quality and safety issues.

• Production to targets, delivery performance (stock and MTO), stock outs.

• Extrusion productivity to targets.

• Material Yield (scrap %), as measured by scrap lbs produced against total material extruded.

• Production Costs, as measured by costs as % sales, CM1 and CM2.

• Labor cost control, overtime and staffing efficiency within department(s).

• Planning of production via Manufacturing Order scheduling and release in FFM Department as well as Extrusion Department.

• Complete all required mandatory trainings as well as elect to participate in some voluntary management improvement trainings.

Knowledge / Skills / Experience

• 5-7 years operations experience including Supervisory or Production Management experience

• MOVEX or related ERP experience

• Strong leadership skills

• Strong Interpersonal and communication skills

• Technical competence/background preferred

• Computer literacy (Word and Excel)

• Ability to prepare action plans to achieve results and prioritize work

• Ability to manage multiple priorities

• Exposure with supervising in a union environment

• Logical thinker

  • The salary range for this position is $76,000 - $84,460. Factors such as scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, job-related skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and business considerations may influence base pay offered. This salary will be subject to a geographic adjustment (according to a specific city and state), if an authorization is granted to work outside of the location listed in this posting.
