Program Summary

The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Sensors Directorate researches and develops sensor and countermeasure technologies for reconnaissance, surveillance, precision engagement and electronic warfare systems. The goal is to provide robust sensors and adaptive countermeasures that guarantee complete freedom of air, space and cyber operations for our forces, and deny these capabilities to our adversaries.

Job Summary

The candidate will work with the infrared detector and focal plane array research group in the Sensors Directorate at AFRL to advance sensor technology by developing/optimizing novel device fabrication and integration processes for next-generation infrared image sensors. They will use the cleanroom facility to develop and optimize a variety of wafer-scale fabrication processes, to include: photolithography, wet/dry etching, materials deposition, passivation, substrate removal, indium bump processing, flip-chip bonding, and packaging. Additionally, the candidate will perform characterization measurements of fabricated devices such as: I-V, C-V, spectral response, noise, and quantum efficiency. The goal of the candidate will be to demonstrate performance improvements of semiconductor-based infrared sensors through fabrication process developments and optimizations.
