Global Foundries Intern - Digital Strategy/Analytics/AI in Woodlands, Singapore

GlobalFoundries (GF) is one of the world’s leading semiconductor foundries and the only one with a truly global footprint. We manufacture complex, feature-rich integrated circuits that enable billions of electronic devices that are pervasive throughout nearly every sector of the global economy.

Our advanced operational and technology capabilities are made available through a global manufacturing network, anchored by facilities in Singapore, Dresden (Germany), Burlington (Vermont) as well as East Fishkill and Malta (New York). With a global manufacturing footprint spanning three continents, GlobalFoundries makes the possible with technologies and systems that transform industries and give customers the power to shape their markets.

We are looking for Digital Manufacturing interns that will experience what it is like to be at the forefront of providing technology solutions while integrating different business functions in semiconductor smart manufacturing. We are seeking candidates with not only a strong sense of business acumen but also passionate about new technologies in advanced/smart manufacturing such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, robotics, big data analytics and many more.

For more information, visit www.gf.com.The following projects are intended for students in Singapore applying for a 20-24 weeks credit-bearing internship with their education institute from Jan 2025 onwards. Project 1 Title: Indirect material Real-time Mass Balance Analytics (RT-MBA)

  • Problem Statement: Indirect Material(IDM) is one of the biggest cost drivers of wafer production. Currently consumption and utilization efficiency for IDMs are monitored and mass balance analyses are conducted periodically for selected items; However, there's no view in real-time / near real time.

  • Project Objective: Develop real-time / near real time mass balance analytics of important IDMs, that enables engineers to 1) prioritize findings and intervene timely, 2) conduct tool-to-tool variability analysis and SOP standardization cross fabs

  • Project Outcome: Interns will gain experience in the semiconductor industry, demonstrate a good understanding of digital manufacturing with the guidance of the Digital Manufacturing Team. At the end of the internship, a presentation of learning experience and their achievements.

  • Project Scope: RT-MBA adopts agile approach, for each sprint the following phases:

  • Requirement gathering conduct design workshop with module leaders globally to ideate desired features/analysis, to refresh the product backlog

  • Prioritization: prioritize features for upcoming release based on importance of loss drivers and data availability

  • Data readiness: assess data readiness and sensorization requirements for all fabs

  • Development: setup dataflow, sensorize equipment(if needed) and build dashboard

  • User Acceptance Test (UAT)

Project 2 Title: Gen-AI for Maintenance Copilot

  • Problem Statement: Maintenance tasks are highly skill-dependent with various knowledge domains (tool alarms, maintenance manuals, SOPs etc.) in diverse formats. Knowledge domains are not standardized across Fabs and domain-to-domain linkage is not digitally enabled.

  • Project Objective: Maintenance Copilot that reduce search time and find relevant content faster, and capture senior technicians’ experience and knowledge that enables junior technicians to ramp up skills fast

  • Project Outcome: Interns will gain experience in the semiconductor industry, demonstrate a good understanding of digital manufacturing with the guidance of the Digital Manufacturing Team. At the end of the internship, a presentation of learning experience and their achievements.

  • Project Scope:

  • Prioritization: understand current maintenance practice, skill-dependency and frequency of various error codes, to prioritize copilot scope

  • Data preparation: identify required knowledge domains, clear and prepare for model development

  • Model development and improvement

  • User Acceptance Test (UAT)

Project 3 Title: Business case development for Digital Manufacturing products

  • Problem Statement: Each digital manufacturing use-case requires development of business case to justify the financial investments required. A robust understanding of solution scope and applicable value levers is required to develop a financial model to size the opportunity at stake, specifically in the context of semiconductor manufacturing. The business case and financial justification needs to undergo stringent review and approval process.

  • Project Objective: To outline the scope of digital manufacturing use-case, applicable value levers, and develop a business case, including financial model tailored to each use-case to comprehensively address the value levers and produce outputs of relevant financial metrics (e.g., ROI, ROIC, payback period) to enable investment decision. Prepare business case and financial outcome for presentation to the appropriate approving counsel.

  • Project Outcome: Interns will gain experience in the semiconductor industry in the context of digital projects, learning about financial processes in large capex investment projects and how to develop a strong business and financial case. At the end of the internship, interns are expected to conduct a presentation of learning experience and their achievements.

  • Project Scope:

  • Defining and researching the financial levers and objectives within a business case for digital products

  • Develop financial model with applicable value levers and assist in information gathering for financial analysis, including data to justify baselines and assumptions

  • Work with internal stakeholders to validate financial model, prepare case for approval, and present a case to management

Project 4 Title: Digital ecosystem development

  • Project Objective: To bridge these gaps by fostering strategic partnerships and integrating advanced digital solutions, thereby creating a more cohesive, efficient, and innovative manufacturing ecosystem. This will ultimately enhance operational efficiency, drive sustainable practices, and accelerate the adoption of cutting-edge technologies across the industry.

  • Project Outcome: Interns will gain experience in the semiconductor industry, demonstrate a good understanding of industrial technology landscape with the guidance of the Digital Manufacturing Team.

  • Project Scope:

  • Conduct comprehensive, fact-based research and analysis to inform strategic decision-making.

  • Prepare clear and concise materials that summarise data, highlight key findings, and draw actionable conclusions to support critical business discussions.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate research insights into business strategies and initiatives.

  • Continuously monitor and analyse industry trends to keep the company informed of potential impacts and opportunities.

Required qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a Degree in engineering, computer science, Information Technology or equivalent
