  • BASIC PURPOSE

Through the operation of the Service Center, this position will develop and maintain a ministry of service and actively promote the structure and identity of The Salvation Army and its mission. The Coordinator will manage and supervise The Salvation Army's daily social service assitance programs within their community. They will work with their Field Representative to create and oversee an Advisory Board, interact and present to various community groups, and recruit and retain volunteers. The Coordinator will work with their Field Representative to seek funding sources through grants, local fundraising events, annual kettle campaigns and other sources as identified. They will coordinate and supervise special events throughout the year, such as Back to School and Christmas distributions, camping programs, and newly identified programs.

  • ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Community Ministry

  • Represent The Salvation Army within the faith-based community.

  • Provide assistance within the guidelines of The Salvation Army, including referrals to other faith-based resources as needed.

General Office Duties

  • Produce and process office correspondence, including letters, emails, and mass mailings.

  • Maintain and inventory all Salvation Army equipment and supplies, including the ordering of office supplies.

  • Keep and compile accurate records ensuring that reporting and record-keeping follow policy and procedure.

  • Answer incoming telephone calls, assisting the caller with information, referrals and appointments as needed.

  • Maintain a clean, uncluttered, and safe office and storeroom environment.

Social Services

  • Interview and assist clients within the guidelines of each assistance program, referring to other resources as needed and maintaining records according to procedures.

  • Attend meetings and collaborate with other community agencies and resources to ensure knowledge of their programs to provide referrals and avoid duplication of services.

  • Seek, obtain, and maintain vendor relationships to assist clients.

  • Develop, coordinate and participate in seasonal distributions including, but not limited to, holiday food & toys, back to school and summer camp for children and adults.

Food Pantry

  • Organize and maintain an ongoing pantry of food items within guidelines.

  • Develop resources to ensure donations of food items.

Volunteers

  • Recruit, train and manage volunteers to assist with the center programs and special events.

  • Recruit, develop and maintain an active Advisory Board.

Fundraising and Resources

  • Assist Field Representative with identifying and applying for local sources of grants, in-kind donations and other income to ensure the financial stability of the Service Center.

  • Assist Field Representative and Service Extension staff in maintaining documentation and reports as needed for each funding source.

  • Organize and supervise annual fundraising events, including a kettle campaign.

  • Ensure that all paperwork involving donations of cash and gift-In-kind items is complete according to policy.

Public Relations & Social Media

  • Work with the Public Relations Director and the Field Representative to properly promote programs and respond to questions from the public on various media platforms.

  • Act as The Salvation Army representative for the local community.

  • Submit copies of all public relations interviews, newspaper stories, and other materials to the Divisional Headquarters, ensuring any required paperwork is complete and on file.

  • Seek out sources of non-cost publicity for the center and its activities, maintaining positive media relationships.

  • Attend meetings and present program information to volunteer groups, local churches, service clubs, businesses, community meetings, and others.

Emergency Disaster Services (EDS)

  • Assist in the work and ministry of EDS as needed.

Other

  • Travel is necessary including local meetings, presentations, special events, off-site multi-day training and general office duties.

  • Perform other duties not necessarily mentioned above but may be requested to ensure the overall success of the Service Center and The Salvation Army.

  • Personal vehicle may be necessary to pick up and deliver gift in kind, supplies and items needed.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma

  • The minimum age is 21

  • Minimum two (2) years Secretary/Administrative Assistant experience preferred

  • Minimum one (1) year social service experience preferred

  • High level of professionalism and confidentiality

  • Computer literate in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook and TEAMS preferred

  • Position requires the use of a personal vehicle that is reliable with optional mileage reimbursement

  • Knowledge of The Salvation Army and its organizational structure is preferred

  • A person with high integrity with professed Christian beliefs and lifestyle who is comfortable discussing Christianity with children and adults preferred

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Professional telephone etiquette

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Attention to detail and ability to track and present accurate information

  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision

  • Ability to work well in a rapidly changing work environment managing multiple tasks at one time

  • Maintain a good rapport and communication with other staff members, volunteers, vendors and the public

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Possess and maintain a current, valid California Class C Drivers License

  • Must be 21 years of age or older

  • Possess and maintain current vehicle registration

  • Possess and maintain current full coverage vehicle insurance

  • Complete and pass The Salvation army vehicle course training within 30 days of employment

  • Current Food Handlers Certification or obtain within 30 days of beginning of employment

  • Complete and pass Protecting the Mission training within 30 days of employment

  • Complete and pass Salvation Army harassment training within 30 days of employment

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis

  • Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects

  • Ability to reach overhead

  • Ability to lift to 25 lbs.
