HDR is looking for a Water Business Group Manager to lead our NY/NJ Water Business Group. The role is driven to execute the annual business plan of the Water Business Group for the area. Your responsibility will be across the New York and New Jersey Area and the role will require periodic travel.

As the NY/NJ Water Business Group Manager, we'll count on you to:

  • Take responsibility for operations including staff development, profitability, morale, quality control and marketing support.
  • Function as a Client and Project Manager by taking responsibility for client service and project delivery in addition to management responsibilities.
  • Take administrative responsibility for the staff and technical service functions and lead and coordinate services with other business groups.
  • Be directly involved in business development planning, proposals, and interviews.
  • Be directly involved with municipal, private water and federal water clients in marketing, project production and related issues.
  • See that all work is planned, organized, controlled, and evaluated through proactive project management system.
  • Implement, monitor, and support company policies.
  • Select, train, develop, manage, and coach project delivery personnel.
  • Manage and develop multidiscipline teams.
  • Collaborate with Water Business Group Market Sector Directors, the Regional Business Group Director and the Area BDL to bring the WBG vision to fruition in the local marketplace.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Controlling - Responsible for the operational metrics for the NY/NJ Water Business Group.
  • Staffing - Assist in prioritization of hires, identification and recruiting of candidates.
  • Client Management Leadership & Assistance - Collaborate with staff in the definition and engagement strategy for clients within the Area
  • Alignment of Resources - Coordinate the alignment of internal resources to the needs of our clients and the achievement of goals
  • Strategic Planning - Assist in development of annual strategic planning effort

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and communicate progress toward period and annual net fee bookings goals.
  • Work closely with client development leadership to observe trends, adjust projections and make required alterations to plan in an effort to achieve year over year goals and cost management targets.
  • Other Initiatives: The candidate will be encouraged to expand HDR branding in the Area and actively participate in professional associations and other functions to interact and establish/maintain client relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience should include significant water / wastewater experience.
  • Proven marketing and business development skills in addition to contacts/relationships with municipal water and wastewater utilities.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in New York or New Jersey or the ability to gain reciprocity.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), Demonstrated team building capabilities and experience with leading diverse teams.
  • Previous experience managing staff, clients, contracts and hiring staff for an engineering consulting firm.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments effectively.
  • Good leadership and organizational skills with the ability to continue to grow the area's water business team.
  • 15 years of industry experience strongly preferred, including management experience
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field
  • A minimum of 10 years experience
  • Maintains a professional or engineering registration and has related technical experience
  • Demonstrated experience with leading diverse teams
  • Committed to quality, improvement and HDR values
  • Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR technical expertise and brand
  • Ability to work cooperatively with regional and local office managers, other area business group directors, technical directors and marketing managers
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions.
