COUNTY OF WOOD Highway Engineering Intern in WISCONSIN RAPIDS, Wisconsin
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Purpose of Position The purpose of this position is to assist the Highway Engineer and Engineer Technician in design and survey of highway and bridge maintenance and construction projects to complement the county traffic system. The work is performed under the supervision of the Highway Engineer. Essential Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. Assist the surveyor to layout and inspect maintenance and construction sites using GPS, robotic total station and data collector. Assist in the inspection of highway and bridge construction projects. Assist Engineer with preparing engineering plans with AutoCAD Civil 3D. To include but not limited to Plan & Profile sheets, Typical Sections, Layout, Cross Sections, Drainage and Miscellaneous details. Assist Engineer to generate engineering estimates and calculations. Sample aggregates and bituminous materials on county projects for compliance with quality standards. Assist and perform construction site surveys and staking. Assist Engineer with traffic control plans and infield traffic control such as sign placement, flagging, and road closures. Assist Engineer with inspection and documentation of town, city and county bridges. Assist Engineer with computing and ordering construction materials supplies for construction projects. Inspect and enter data and information into a GIS-based application for the highway asset inventory. Additional Tasks and Responsibilities While the following tasks are necessary for the work of the unit, they are not an essential part of the purpose of this position and may also be performed by other unit members. Assist with flagging needs for the continued work efforts of the highway department.
