The Industrial Buildings process group at Stantec is consistently working on a wide variety of exciting industrial food and beverage, process, chemical, agricultural, and other manufacturing projects. From retrofit/upgrade projects to brownfield additions, to complete greenfield facility installations, we partner with clients through all phases of the project lifecycle to deliver high quality designs and outcomes.

Your Opportunity

You will work on a variety of projects, and as a team member of a larger project under the guidance of a Senior Process Engineer/Designer. You will assist to evaluate, select, specify, and engineer certain processes or methodologies for a project. You will perform a variety of tasks which may include calculations and field work.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a Senior Process Engineer, assist with engineering design activities for projects of various sizes and complexity.

  • Complete tasks as assigned by the Senior Process Engineer in a timely, thorough, and organized manner. Tasks may include, but are not limited to:

  • Development of engineering drawings such as PFDs and P&IDs

  • Development of design memorandums, heat, mass and energy balances etc.

  • Evaluation of new and/or existing equipment

  • Sizing calculations for equipment, lines, and instrumentation

  • Documentation of calculations performed

  • Support the development of documents such as material balance tables, line designation tables, PSV lists, cause and effect diagrams, set point lists, equipment lists, operating philosophies, equipment datasheets, and instrumentation datasheets

  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to deliver quality products to our clients

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Basic knowledge of process engineering design fundamentals

  • Ability to read PFDs and P&IDs. Ability to read piping isometrics and piping plans would be an asset.

  • Basic experience with the development and checking of PFDs and P&IDs.

  • Knowledge of piping hydraulics and line sizing would be an asset.

  • Basic experience with some process calculations, and a reasonable degree of skill with Microsoft Excel.

  • Experience using simulation software (HYSYS, VMGSim, Promax, etc) would be an asset.

  • Experience with hydraulic software (Fathom, Stoner) would be an asset, but is not required.

  • Knowledge of design codes, standards, and best practices applicable, including but not limited to, NFPA and ASME.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience.

  • Registered as an EIT and working toward professional licensure.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
