Job Description

The transportation Business Line is made up of professional and technical experts in the highways, streets, airports, bridges, marine and rail disciplines. An Intermediate Bridge Engineer is responsible for the delivery of a range of projects for both private and public sector clients.

The AECOM Winnipeg office has an established track record of successfully delivering small to large transportation projects. Our modern office in west Winnipeg has good transportation links, ample free parking, and accommodates a multidisciplinary design centre. We are now looking to enhance and grow this team with individuals who have a sound technical background, who share our enthusiasm and determination, to support our expanding workload.

An Intermediate Bridge Engineer position is a leadership role within the group. Knowledge and understanding of delivery expectations must be understood to effectively lead as projects are executed under a conventional or alternative delivery models. Understanding of current bridge design codes is critical. Implied is an ability to complete a bridge design from planning through to detailed design stages for steel, concrete and wood structures.

You will have proven design experience delivering projects to Clients’ satisfaction at the appropriate standard, ensuring accuracy of drawings and calculations, and that designs are economical and appropriate and that the relevant codes and standards are complied with. You will have strong business development and client relationship skills and the ability to develop and manage the work of others. You will also have the technical ability and knowledge and competence to guide and teach others.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design of steel, concrete and wood bridges, both highway and rail, from a Functional Design stage to Preliminary and Detailed Design

  • Input to proposal preparation including corresponding cost estimates

  • Design/project team lead responsible for coordination of team and quality/timely deliverables

  • Manage the preparation of client reports, bringing together the contributions from other disciplines

  • Mentor and train junior staff

  • Develop positive Client relationships

  • Participation in local engineering activities and associations

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering + 6+ years in bridge design and construction with recent bridge design experience.

  • Licensed or eligible to be licensed as Professional Engineer in Manitoba

  • Must have valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated track record of delivering a range of technical projects from new build to rehabilitation

  • Experience with bridge condition assessments and load ratings

  • Experience with resident engineering and site supervision during construction

  • Experience of participating in multi-disciplinary engineering projects, focused on bridge design, with the ability to manage and coordinate supporting design inputs - geotechnical, hydrotechnical, environmental, roadway, lighting, aesthetics, consultation, etc.

  • A working knowledge of structural analysis software and modelling, such as SAP and STAAD

  • A working knowledge of bridge design codes for highway and rail structures including the AASHTO LRFD, CHBDC, and AREMA design codes

  • Master Degree or PhD in Structural Engineering are an asset

  • Experience of directing small teams of engineers and technicians

  • Experience in consulting engineering, both business and contracts, is an asset

  • Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for the project team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for health and safety in design

  • Enjoyment of deriving technical solutions from a pragmatic understanding of empirical theories

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Strong interpersonal, negotiating, problem-solving and analytical skills are a must.

  • Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems, and completes the task with minimal supervision.

Offered compensation will be based on location and individual qualifications. The expected range is $80,512.74 - $144,922.94.
