This role spans the entire CMS life cycle and includes design assurance across all engineering disciplines. In this role, you will provide technical input, direction, and oversight to assigned programs to ensure all stakeholder objectives are met. You will ensure technical and process consistency across the program. You will be responsible for ensuring process compliance to standard work, standard work task tailoring, product and process deviations, design reviews, verification, and validation activities along with chairing top technical issues for problem resolution.

The Design Assurance Chief Engineer interfaces with Program Chiefs, Discipline Chiefs, Subject Matter Experts, Fellows, Value Stream Leads, System IPT and Component IPT leads.

What You Will Do

  • Review and approve proposal for risk and technical adequacy

  • Review and approve proposed standard work and deviations, including design reviews, validation, verification, certification, Reliability Growth Testing and Highly Accelerated Life Testing

  • Review and approve safety part status to ensure alignment with Product Safety Integrity Team

  • Review and approve requirements compliance to ensure it is accurate and complete

  • Ensure risk plans are defined and scheduled

  • Review and approve requirements for compliance for the program

  • Ensure adherence to standard work and the generic requirements (GRD)

  • Ensure all risks are managed to an acceptable level at the appropriate time in the program

  • Review and approve design reviews and design review action items

  • Support, review and approve RRCA activities and investigations for technical issues

  • Review and approve technical issue plans and resolutions

  • Review and approve DFMEA, PFMEA, SSA and FMEA

  • Approve standard work evidence and compliance

  • Review and approve development verification and qualification test plans, procedures and reports

  • Review and approve test readiness reviews to ensure plan correctness, equipment, product conformity and procedures

  • Support, review and approve relentless root cause activities (RRCA) and investigations for technical issues

  • Verify the RRCA learnings are incorporated into standard work and/or the GRD

  • Review and approve post development and pre-qualification final design review (FDR) and post-qualification Final Design Assurance Review (FDA) reviews

  • Review and approve configuration changes, class, and substantiation

  • Mentor and train, process quality focus, voice of customer, voice of certifying authorities

  • Review and approve top technical and engineering corrective action board issues ▪

  • Review and Approve nonconformances, engineering changes, SRIs, ETVs and deviations

  • Review and approve production (OEM) and field (MRO) RRCA activity

  • Review and approve engineering escapes

  • Support review and approval of field modifications

  • Support review and approval of safety investigations

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance. Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required ​

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Masters in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Science, or Systems Engineering

  • Experience with Engine Controls, and / or Power and Thermal Management Systems

  • Direct or indirect leadership experience

  • Experience presenting to management and customers

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
