8th Avenue Food & Provisions is a growing organization made up of businesses that produce and sell quality products including pasta, peanut butter, granola, and fruit and nut trail mixes to retail, foodservice and ingredient customers. The company was formed in October 2018 through a combination of Post Holdings’ private brands businesses and is owned by Post Holdings and funds affiliated with Thomas H. Lee Partners, L.P. (“THL”), a private equity firm. Responsibilities SUMMARY: The Systems Engineer is responsible for maintaining, installing and designing electric and electronic equipment throughout the plant. The person in this position is responsible for maintaining electric schematics and drawings and assisting in designing applications of special equipment in the plant. Capable of communicating with plant personnel in order to effectively trouble shoot production equipment and assuring plant equipment meets OSHA regulations. MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Identify the major duties and responsibilities of the job. Electronic Skills - Required work skills include 5 years of verifiable industrial maintenance including: Electrical troubleshooting, mechanical troubleshooting, PLCs- Programming and Troubleshooting(Allen Bradley, Rockwell Automation, TI, Siemens, Wonderware), read blueprints and wiring diagrams, ability to determine root cause, ability to train mechanics on troubleshooting. In addition, experience with: Material Handling Systems, Pneumatic Conveying Equipment, Processing Equipment, Film packaging vertical and horizontal, Carton packaging, Case packers, Palletizer, GMP/food processing experience, Project Management, Documentation of troubleshooting procedures for industrial equipment, Microsoft Office programs, TPM, Lean Manufacturing. Maintenance Leadership – Provides consistent positive leadership to achieve required results through all maintenance technicians. Frequently moves throughout the plant to check on technicians and equipment. Identifies maintenance problems and applies solutions as appropriate. Alerts management and appropriate personnel in production/other departments to any/all problems that interfere with achieving production targets. Assist maintenance leads, technicians and production employees as required. Complete reports as required. Assumes Plant Engineering role as required. Resource Management – Equipment - Maintains continuous contact with Maintenance Leads & technicians to ensure that they understand PLC programs, system interfaces and controls. Ensures that all technicians are properly trained. Uses various techniques including coaching, small group meetings, one-on-one sessions, and/or positive recognition to cause maintenance leads & technicians to achieve desired results. Maintains familiarity with employee guidebook. Resource Management – Materials – Ensures that all machinery/equipment is working properly. Coordinates maintenance and/or repairs of electronic equipment as needed. Checks to see that all material – spare parts, specialty tools, fluids, etc. – are available when needed. Reports any shortages immediately to Plant Purchaser and/or Plant Engineer. Safety – Ensures that work area is free of all hazards and technicians are following all safety rules and regulations. Develops and maintains personal knowledge of safety rules and regulation. Conducts daily area tour (hazard analysis) and resolves any/all safety issues in an expedient fashion. Conducts accident investigations and prepares written reports. Conducts regular safety briefings and orientations to ensure safe operations. Attends monthly safety committee meetings. Quality & Sanitation – Notifies and coordinates with QA representatives to resolve any issues or problems. Conducts frequent tours of plant to check that machinery is working properly and technicians are performing maintenance assignments in accord with GMPs and quality assurance standards. Administration & Recordkeeping – Plans and budgets time efficiently; maintains files, reports in organized manner. Processes and completes all required schedules, reports, in a timely, accurate and professional manner. PRODUCT QUALITY & FOOD SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES: As an employee of 8th Avenue Food & Provisions you share in the responsibility for producing a food product that meets established specifications of the highest quality and is safe and wholesome. It is every 8th Avenue Food & Provisions employee’s responsibility to immediately report any incident or situation that may compromises any of the above factors or issues to Quality Assurance Manager and, if unavailable, to the Plant Manager at the plant. DIMENSIONS: The Systems Engineer position is an essential position in the plant and is responsible for the successful operation of plant production through its electronics program. Due to the high visibility of this position, incumbent is required to maintain a consistently positive, professional demeanor. In addition, the position includes the following: Assume responsibility for 2 maintenance leads, 1 purchasing clerk and 18 maintenance technicians in the Plant Engineer’s absence. Position requires shift, weekend and overtime work as needed. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/ REQUIRED TO SUCCESSFULLY PERFORM MAJOR DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Certification of Rockwell Automation Good Planning and Organization Skills Excellent Communication Skills – Verbal, Written, and Listening Delegating, Coaching, and Checking Problem Analysis and Decision Making Skills Interpersonal Skills, Patience, Able to Resolve Conflict Good Basic Math and Quantitative Skills Mechanical Aptitude and Knowledge of Machinery Working knowledge of PLC programming and system integration Working Knowledge of Electricity and Mechanics Knowledge of Food Manufacturing Processes; Good Manufacturing Practices; OSHA Regulations; Quality Assurance and Sanitation Standards Knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (union organized plants only) Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, OEE’s, and 5S AutoCAD experience Participate in daily production meetings Answer troubleshooting calls on production floor as required. Travel to factory for training on troubleshooting on specific equipment (may require passport) Written documentation of program and proper electronic control program storage procedures. One Point Lesson development and training maintenance/operators. Support all other 8th Ave plants as required. Support locations electrical/electronic MRO requirements. MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Structural, Computer or Food Engineering or equivalent experience/background 10-15 Years relevant experience with minimum of four years supervisory experience Other manufacturing/industrial experience will be considered.
