The job allows modification of procedures and practices covering work as long as the end results meet standards of acceptability (quality, volume, timeliness etc.).

Relocation to Wilmington, NC is required.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Embrace Global Nuclear Fuel’s nuclear safety culture, where work is performed with an overriding priority on integrity, safety, security and quality.

  • Lead mechanical engineer responsible for manufacturing processes including process development and definition. In collaboration with the team, provide and innovative solutions to ensure robust, compliant, efficient design for new manufacturing capability.

  • Design and build electrical and control systems for manufacturing equipment which includes specifying electrical components, generating electrical drawings, PLC programming, human and data interface programming, electrical panel fabrication, and equipment wiring.

  • Design and review manufacturing equipment, devices, systems, and processes for the new fuel fabrication facility including both mechanical and electrical/instrumentation aspects of equipment.

  • Support and inform electrical design of the production facility.

  • Manage and coordinate work with vendors for equipment which is not built internally.

  • Develop conceptual designs and test plans.

  • Design and build test systems to validate design concepts.

  • Develop materials and participate in process design reviews.

  • Develop detailed models and drawings of equipment designs.

  • Support identification of vendors procurement activities.

  • Interface with product designers on design for manufacturing.

  • Assemble, install, and test processing equipment in the pre-production development space.

  • Execute test plans that demonstrate performance, safety, quality, and throughput.

  • Follow through production implementation, including personnel training, procedure generation, , testing, qualification and production support.

Required Qualifications

  • 4 Year Technical Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline from an accredited university; OR Associates Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical discipline with at least 10 years of experience in design and development of manufacturing electrical / controls processes and equipment.

  • 6 years of experience with electrical and controls equipment design.

  • 2 years of experience in PLC programming and other structured programming languages.

  • 2 years of experience in CAD software for generating electrical and controls drawings.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Walk up and down stairs. Occasionally climb ladders.

  • Standing, crawling, kneeling, crouching, reaching around manufacturing equipment.

  • Ability to use computers. Frequent use of computer equipment.

  • Assembly of equipment, operation of hand tools, lifting up to 20 lbs.

  • Must be able to relocate to Wilmington, NC and work on-site as required.

Desired Characteristics

  • Demonstrated experience in equipment design in a high consequence, high value production environment.

  • Familiar with OSHA, NEC NFPA 70, NFPA 79, NFPA 70E, and UL508A requirements.

  • Understanding of electrical systems.

  • Experience in nuclear fuel fabrication, nuclear operations, or other regulated industry.

  • Ability to create detailed CAD electrical drawings and schematics.

  • Capability to analyze problems and develop innovative solutions to improve equipment performance and reliability.

  • Familiarity with prototyping techniques and conducting tests to validate designs.

  • Understanding of various manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, welding, extrusion and additive manufacturing.

  • Ability to manage projects effectively, including planning, scheduling, and coordinating tasks.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, convey design concepts, and present findings.

  • Precision and attention to detail to ensure accuracy in design specifications and manufacturing processes.

  • Capability to work independently on design tasks as well as collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Willingness to stay updated with advancements in technology, industry standards, and best practices in mechanical design.

  • Familiar with operation, troubleshooting and application of industrial equipment and processes such as resistance pressure welders, motors, valves, gears, mixing, heating, cooling, chemical reactions, furnaces, heat exchangers, hoods, vibrators, hydraulics etc.

  • Experience with manufacturing equipment design, specification, requisitioning, testing and installation, including management of capital and expense projects.

  • Experience with NRC Regulations, Process Safety Management (PSM), Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) or Integrated Safety Analysis (ISA).

  • Proficiency with PC and productivity software [examples include MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint].

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

  • Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma Certification.
