GE Vernova Bundle Assembly Shift Supervisor & FMO Production Planner in Wilmington, North Carolina

Job Description Summary

GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy is an industry leader for commercial nuclear fuel manufacturing. We are seeking a Shift Operations Leader for our Bundle Assembly team & FMO Production Planner. This team is responsible for final assembly of nuclear fuel bundles for use in commercial nuclear power plants.

In this role, you will embrace and manage the resources and workforce related to production tasks as well as the overall planning and material flow for Global Nuclear Fuel’s Fuel Manufacturing Operation (FMO). Acting as a hands-on leader with your team, you will be responsible for safety, procedure compliance, product quality, efficient product manufacturing, and positive team member engagement.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support manufacturing leaders in the strategic planning of staffing, equipment, and other resources.

  • Be the subject matter expert on FMO production planning including developing and integrating tools throughout FMO.

  • Leading the Bundle Assembly Day Shift as part of regular daily responsibilities.

  • Effectively communicate with customers, auditors, regulators, and other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Select, train, develop, and provide ongoing leadership and direction of assigned personnel.

  • Ensure team members are provided adequate training, resources, and support to assure safe and compliant manufacturing practices in a nuclear regulated environment.

  • Be responsible for meeting strict EHS requirements, product quality requirements and production schedule requirements.

  • Lead a strong quality culture compliant to the Quality Management System.

  • Assure daily shift operation planning - provides direction to support needs of production area, including work assignments, scheduling of overtime, and training.

  • Support, encourage, and facilitate Human Performance (HU) principles. Engrain in the team use of HU tools as it relates to safety and quality. Ensure ongoing evolution of HU, observation programs, and training plans to maximize workforce capability.

  • Work with manufacturing engineering, manufacturing quality, other support functions, and manufacturing leadership to provide technical, quality, and production guidance. Identify, effectively communicate, and own to resolution issues that may arise.

  • Drive continuous improvement through Lean Manufacturing. Focus the team on constantly seeking opportunity for improvement.

  • High-level utilization of Lean Manufacturing principles to facilitate design and implementation of continuous improvement of processes with the team.

  • Communicate business goals, programs, and processes to shift.

  • Promote team engagement and ownership. Champion positive employee relations. Foster employee engagement and recognition.

  • Develop and support the growth of all team employees.

  • Serve on the Emergency Response Organization (ERO) and assure performance of emergency protocols for FMO team. Be able to qualify as Building Manager after 1 year training period.

  • Other relevant duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college, university, or equivalent plus 1 year of relevant work experience.

OR

  • High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience.

  • Work experience must include at least one of the following:

  • 1 year of supervisory experience in a nuclear, manufacturing, or technical field; OR

  • 2 years technical experience in nuclear or manufacturing operations; OR

  • 5 years of operator experience in nuclear operations

Eligibility Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to cover off-shifts as needed. Regular shift assignment will be day shift (7am shift start) in the Fuel Manufacturing Operation (FMO).

  • Ability to walk up and down stairs multiple times during the day

  • Ability to move around and under manufacturing equipment. Ability to use computers.

Desired Characteristics

  • BS/BA in a technical field, preferably nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science

  • Experience with production planning tools, specifically Oracle ASCP

  • Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook)

  • Computer programming experience related to database creation, access, and manipulation

  • Manufacturing supervision experience

  • Proven ability to create real and positive change. Proactively identify and provide practical options to manage and mitigate risks.

  • Nuclear plant operations or services experience

  • Knowledge of nuclear fuel manufacturing

  • Experience working in Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or other highly regulated environment. Strong techniques to ensure the team performs to high standards of procedural compliance.

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to both resolve daily urgent issues at the same time as working on continuous improvement projects.

  • Six Sigma or Lean manufacturing certification. Practical experience with identifying opportunities for and designing changes to processes based on Lean. Experience in training and positively influencing teams of workers during implementation of Lean changes.
