Bilingual Benefits Outreach Coordinators are neighbor driven and community facing advocates and collaborators, vital in championing food justice and increasing food access in North Carolina. The Bilingual Benefits Outreach Coordinator works with community partners and directly with neighbors to increase participation in North Carolina's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid, Energy Assistance programs, emergency food resources, and other safety net programs as needed. The Bilingual Benefits Outreach Coordinator assesses the needs of each household, gives accurate information, completes necessary paperwork, and makes external referrals as necessary to meet the unique needs of each individual household. The Bilingual Benefits Outreach Coordinator's role focuses on food justice and root causes of food insecurity and uses those advocacy skills along with a thorough knowledge of SNAP policy to increase SNAP eligibility to increase SNAP eligibility and participation for households in North Carolina. The Bilingual Benefits Outreach Coordinator has a visible role in the community, facilitating and fostering networking events and community collaboration. This role is a vital link to federal safety net benefits and programs that are built with institutional barriers in place, helping to navigate the application process and program obstacles in a culturally meaningful way in English and conversational Spanish.

Extensive travel required between Duplin, Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover, and Pender.

This is a position that requires you to take initiative and act with limited direction or guidance.

Responsibilities:

  1. Direct outreach events including tabling and application assistance community office hours. (25%)

  2. Phone outreach from assigned referrals to connect neighbors to SNAP, Medicaid, LIEAP, and other benefits, including emergency food resources. (20%)

  3. Logs neighbors into Customer Relationship Management software, completes case notes and daily reports on Clients and Outreach, submits completed applications, and other administrative tasks (20%)

  4. Neighbor follow-up, case management, advocacy with county Department of Social Services offices, and providing ongoing resources to ensure each household who applies for benefits receives the type and level of assistance for which they are eligible. (15%)

  5. Community capacity building by finding new and maintaining existing community partnerships external to the Food Bank to expand the Food Bank's reach in the community. Organizing internal stakeholders to provide the best value and customer service to the Food Bank's external partners. (10%)

  6. Participates in the Latinx Empowerment Outreach Network (LEON) to help guide the organization in the most culturally meaningful ways to serve the Latine' community. (5%)

  7. Continuing education on Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion and SNAP policy to ensure equitable and inclusive customer service and up-to-date knowledge on SNAP policy (5%)

Qualifications:

3+ years professional experience in a case management or community engagement required Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public Health, Psychology, Sociology (or other related degree) required Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) required Strong verbal and written communicator in English and Spanish Lived bilingual experience with a cultural lens strongly preferred S rong time and priority management required Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record Must believe in the mission of the organization. Demonstrated knowledge of food justice and systemic barriers required Demonstrated ability to work cohesively with a diverse group of people required Knowledge of and experience with federal safety net programs preferred Demonstrated commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and understanding of cultural values and norms of diverse communities, demographics, and perspectives to help cultivate inclusion and a sense of belonging within the organization and community.
