Description:
The Family Medicine Preceptor is an employed physician of the hospital reporting to the Program Director, Family Medicine Residency and, ultimately, the Chair, St. Francis Hospital Family Medicine Department. The primary function of the Family Practice Preceptor position is to serve as an educator and clinical role model for the Residents primarily in the ambulatory setting and shall devote an average of thirteen (13) hours per week performing such duties. As part of his/her duties, this individual will provide clinical services for patients of no less than 12 hour weekly.
Faculty: Family Medicine Residency Program
I. General Description and Responsibility:
The Family Medicine Faculty position is a 1.0 FTE employed physician of the hospital reporting to the Program Director, Family Medicine Residency Program and, ultimately, the Chair, Saint Francis Hospital Family Medicine Department. The primary function of the Family Medicine Faculty position is to serve as an educator and clinical role model for the residents both in the ambulatory and inpatient settings. As part of their duties, this individual will also provide clinical services for patients for no less than 12 hours weekly.
Requirements:
• Graduate of an accredited medical school.
• Clinical skills and knowledge of Family Medicine residency programs.
• Unrestricted Delaware Board of Medicine Examiners physician license.
• Unrestricted DEA permit to prescribe all medications commonly prescribed in the course of practice.
• Appropriate credentialing through Medical Staff Office.
Additional credentials:
• Eligible to provide reimbursable physician services and maintain provider status with Medicare and Medicaid.
• Eligible to provide services with no sanctions or exclusions from either the Health and Human Services/Office of Inspector General (HHS/OIG) Cumulative Sanction Report or the General Services Administration's (GSA) List of Parties Excluded from Federal Programs.
• Interest in Maternal/Child healthcare (preferred, but not required).
Essential Duties: Teaching duties will include (but are not limited to):
• Direct resident supervision in the Program’ continuity clinic, the Family Practice Center.
• Lecture/discussions delivered at resident conferences as assigned.
• Audio/video/live reviews with resident physicians and physicians on faculty.
• Direct patient care that will include supervision of residents and medical students with scope of care including general family medicine and minor surgical procedures.
Administrative duties will include (but are not limited to):
• Curriculum implementation for all educational aspects of the program.
• Communication and coordination with the private physicians in the community who act as teachers of the residents, as required.
Other Duties:
• Provide excellent leadership skills, supervisory skills, mentoring skills, and teamwork skills commensurate with a position of leadership within this organization.
• Protect confidential information in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Participate in continuous quality improvement.
• Complete additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
II. Qualifications
• Fully licensed Physician in the State of Delaware.
• Board Certified (Eligible) in Family Medicine; and
• Familiarity with Hospital Joint Commission Requirements.
III. Professional Responsibilities
• Provide appropriated direct medical care to inpatients and outpatients in the Family Medicine Residency Program.
• Supervise residents and medical students in ambulatory and inpatient settings; and
• Perform such duties as may be reasonably requested by Hospital to assure the delivery of quality healthcare.
