Labor Relations Manager

The Labor Relations Manager reports to Director of Labor Relations, with responsibility for strategic labor relations matters. The job is for an experienced professional who has a passion for labor relations, and who likes working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented business environment which presents daily challenges on labor relations issues.

This position will be based out of Asplundh’s corporate offices, however, with regular travel approximately 60% of the time, the qualified candidate may reside anywhere in the continental US with convenient access to a major airport.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

Support Asplundh through the following:

  • Oversee training program and conduct supervisor and management training in conjunction with Human Resources colleagues regarding labor law compliance;

  • Oversee and conduct risk assessments; advise management on ways to reduce potential liability

  • Provide support and help as needed to conduct due-diligence and provide labor relations advice on mergers, acquisitions, new business ventures, business consolidations and reorganizations.

  • Ability to manage the preparation and presentation of charges related to the National Labor Relations Act. This may be completed with internal staff and/or outside counsel.

  • Provide advice on interpretation of collective bargaining agreements and manage the grievance/arbitration process when necessary.

  • Analyze predictive analytics and advise Senior Management regarding labor and employment initiatives that support company goals.

  • Provide advice and counsel to Senior Management in all areas of Labor Law.

  • Lead new processes and projects as assigned by the VP and Director of Labor.

  • Ability to work cross functionally to support legal compliance, and negotiation of collective bargaining agreements and various supplemental agreements.

  • Other Projects as assigned by the VP and Director of Labor.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of experience in Labor Relations successfully managing and negotiating collective bargaining agreements, handling arbitrations and union campaigns.

  • Experience in successfully managing NLRB charges and information requests.

  • Strong leadership and coaching skills

  • Strong presentation and training skills

  • Desire to work both tactically (hands-on) and strategically.

License & Certifications

  • Valid driver's license required.

Travel Requirements

  • Travel is required 50% – 75% of the time.

  • Must have transportation to and from the office.
