Headstart Hatching is seeking a dynamic individual to join our team as a Hatchery Back Crew Supervisor!
The Hatchery Back Crew Supervisor will be responsible for overseeing the movement of turkey eggs between different parts of the hatchery, ensuring that transfer operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established standards and protocols. The supervisor will manage a team of hatchery workers and will be responsible for ensuring that they are properly trained and equipped to carry out their duties. They need to be an active leader for the team with constant involvement on the production floor.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage a team of hatchery workers, assigning tasks and responsibilities as needed and ensuring that all team members are properly trained and equipped to carry out their duties.
Training new workers and ensuring that all workers are following established protocols.
Oversee the movement of turkey eggs from incubators to hatchers, ensuring that transfer operations are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with established protocols.
Reporting any abnormalities or issues to the Hatchery Manager and taking appropriate corrective action with documentation.
Monitor environmental conditions during the transfer process, such as temperature and humidity, to ensure that eggs are not exposed to any adverse conditions.
Ensure that eggs are properly labeled and identified during the transfer process.
Maintain records of egg transfer including dates, flocks, and quantities, and ensure that all documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
Work closely with other hatchery staff to ensure smooth and efficient transfer operations and assist as needed to keep production running.
Ensure that cleaning within department is within company standards and address any issues when below standards.
Maintain proper safety for both people and animal including biosecurity, animal welfare, and proper working environments. Coordinating with outside companies for production-based needs, including feed deliveries and offal removal.
Assisting with other hatchery-related tasks and flexible work schedules, as needed.
The ideal candidate will have the following educational and experience background:
High school diploma is preferred
Valid Driver’s License is required
Previous agricultural experience is preferred
Experience specific to hatchery work is a plus
Familiarity with biosecurity and animal welfare protocols and industry regulations is preferred
Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team of workers at different levels
Attention to detail and ability to accurately complete work
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Bilingual in Spanish is a plus
