About you and this role

We are looking for a customer-oriented and innovation-driven individual to join our team asTechnical Service and Development Scientist for Wire & Cable, located inWiesbaden, Germany.

The incumbent is part of the Technical Service and Development (TS&D) group within thePackaging and Specialty Plastics business. The TS&D Scientist for this position will work on the Wire & Cable market, focusing mainly on Telecom Cable projects and customers.

The Wire & Cable TS&D Scientist is accountable for the development and implementation of products to meet the relevant market trends and customer requirements with a goal to deliver significant value growth through technical differentiation. The TS&D Scientist should drive projects that fulfill customer needs and that are in line with the market strategy.

The incumbent masters the cable extrusion converting technology and should provide the technical service required to the technical success of the Dow Solution at their customers. The TS&D Scientist is accountable for reporting all technical findings at customers through reports of call, technology developments via CRI reports, and to protect innovation by filing appropriate patent disclosures. The TS&D Scientist is responsible for assessing the value of his/her projects and reporting the value upon project implementation.

Responsibilities

  • To live the safety standards, code of conduct and ethic principles of the Dow Chemical Co. and ensure that the development work is carried out using the highest standards in terms of sustainable development

  • To lead technically new product, application and technology implementation in theWire & Cablesegment(Focus on Telecom Market)according to the business strategy

  • Provide technical support to customers to implement new products and troubleshoot in case of technical issues

  • To interface with technical, engineering and commercial teams and counter parties within the customer's organization. To translate identified needs into product and application development opportunities. To establish and maintain sound relationships with counter parties

  • To identify emerging competitive technology threats and drive the development of solutions that respond to such threats

  • To address the identified technical unmet needs in new product developments aligned with the Marketing participation plans by teaming up with other R&D groups in Dow or external ones with a goal to minimize time-to-market for new products and technologies

  • To collect market opportunities and translate those into technical unmet needs at all members of the value chain based on the market strategies

  • To create and share effective technical documentation that will help to leverage application and product knowledge (presentations, external and internal papers, customer visit reports, internal technical reports, etc.)

  • To charter new projects with clear descriptions of the project scope, the timeline for project milestones and the assessment of the value of the opportunity

  • To complete development work using the Scientific Method, carry out literature reviews, formulate technical hypothesis, develop test plans, carry experiments in and provide conclusions and recommendations

  • To keep clear and updated project documentation featuring basic information as project’s scope, definition, timelines, deliverables, milestones, value assessment etc. in standard formats as per definition by the group and business leadership

  • To keep building and improving the most effective external network including related machinery manufacturers in order to facilitate new product developments, implementations and qualifications

  • To travel as required and defined per customer/market needs, while managing expenses within the given travel annual budget

Qualifications

  • Master's degree, PhD or equivalent in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Material Sciences or Polymer technology

  • Language Skills: Fluency in English is a must, and other European languages are a plus. Willingness to learn German will be appreciated

  • Experience on cable extrusion, plastics/polymers processing, material characterization and customer service

  • Knowledge of Telecom market (Copper Wire and Fiber Optical Cable)

  • Knowledge of Power transmission and flame-retardant technologies is a plus

  • Flexibility: Travelling within EMEA region up to 30-40 %

  • Other skills and abilities:
