Job Description
SCOPE OF WORK:
The Youth Education Coordinator manages the educational programming for children who are newly arrived, from early childhood education (0-5) through to elementary, middle, and high school (5-22). Programming of ERSI & RSI includes parent, care takers, and student orientations, liaising between parents and schools, building the capacity of school staff to understand and serve newcomer students, connecting parents to childcare and educational resources, building parent capacity to support the social-emotional wellness and academic growth of their children, and running enrichment programs that build academic skills and enhance integration, among other initiatives. This position is primarily responsible for overseeing the Refugee School Impact Grants and coordinates two positions in the implementation of that educational programming. Collaborating with colleagues, The Youth Education Coordinator ensures that programs are driven by student and stakeholder needs and experience are aligned with donor requirements, that qualitative and quantitative data are collected, and program volunteers are trained. This position will actively engage with clients, external stakeholders such as schools, and other IRC departments in Wichita. This is a full-time, non-exempt position. The Education Manager supervised the School Coordinator position.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinate the delivery of education and youth programming, including overseeing coordination of parent orientations, parent capacity building and engagement services, summer enrichment programs, school capacity building, and other academic and recreational activities.
Provide supportive management to direct reports, build their capacity, identify opportunities for their growth, and empower them to build robust and engaging programs for youth and parents.
Support the design of new programming to meet the needs of children ages 0-5 and their caregivers, driven by active collaboration with the clients that will be served by the program .
Collaborate with colleagues to design and implement a monitoring and evaluation framework to evaluate program effectiveness from the perspective of the participants in the program and find opportunities for continuous improvement.
Build stakeholder relationships that enrich the opportunities and connections that the program can offer youth and build provider capacity to serve newcomer youth well.
Ensure compliance with all program standards and grant requirements in accordance with the State Office for Refugees (KSOR) programming requirements; including but not limited to, quarterly
program reports, semi-annual program reports, and monthly program reports.
Maintain ongoing communication with colleagues on the status of the programs, clients, and outcomes, and provide timely reports on any management and contract compliance issues.
Participate in resource development and the writing of grant proposals in support of the youth and education work of the IRC Wichita.
Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably in Education or related field.
Minimum two years’ experience in education programs for children and youth, including previous experience supervising staff or volunteers.
Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically in a multi-cultural setting and with limited-English proficiency speakers.
Fluency in English required. International work or study experience and second language abilities a plus; particularly in Spanish, French, Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Swahili, or other client language.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), internet research, and experience using databases and information gathering systems.
Able to occasionally work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
Valid driver’s license and reliable access to an insured vehicle.
Working Environment:
Combination of working in a standard office environment and work in the community including meetings with community partners.
Occasional weekend and/or evening work required.
Compensation:Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
