Kansas Gas Service (KGS), a premier natural gas distribution company is looking for an Engineering Intern to join our team. KGS Engineering Interns receive challenging and exciting assignments as well as opportunities to network with other interns and leadership. KGS Interns are placed within departments and given the opportunity to experience the type of work they might encounter in a full-time position through projects, on-the-job assignments, job shadowing, and presentations. KGS internships offer a competitive environment that exposes students to project management and teamwork.

Work assignments are anticipated to be in Wichita, KS.

Position Requirements:

What You Will Do

Coordinate, assist, and/or perform engineering activities relative to the design, operation, and maintenance of company pipeline and storage systems and related facilities.

Help with project coordination among area regions, departments (Customer Development, Operating, and Customer Services), and contractors including:

Bid proposals and contracts

Line extensions

Construction and relocation projects

Provide technical and/or engineering assistance to management, employees, governmental/regulatory personnel, contractors, customers, and others on matters including but not limited to:

• Meter and regulator settings

• Equipment/system design

• Pipeline sizes

• Pipeline modeling

• Database analyses

• Growth planning

• Emergency valve isolation plans for pipeline systems

• Policies and procedures

Review, summarize, and assist in preparation of information including but not limited to:

• Engineering studies

• Pipeline bid proposals

• Construction contracts

• Status/activity reports

• Job orders

• Purchase requisitions

What You Will Need

Prefer students who are projected to graduate in December 2025 or May 2026 who are enrolled at the Kansas State University or Wichita State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering or Civil Engineering but may consider other applicable majors.

Prefer students to have a GPA of above 3.0 as well as involvement in extracurricular, community support activities, particularly those demonstrating leadership. Prior work experience (internships, summer or part-time work while attending school, etc.) is also preferred.

Timeline

Applications for our summer internship program open in August. We are recruiting interns beginning in September. Interviews follow campus career fairs. Offers are typically extended to students by the end of October or early November.

Compensation: All ONE Gas internship positions are paid. We offer a fair and competitive pay rate.
