SCOPE OF WORK:

The goal of the Services for Older Refugees (SOR) is to support increased integration and independent healthy living for older humanitarian migrants. Older individuals may face a range of barriers to accessing both new and existing community resources and support that may not respond adequately to the specific, unique needs of this population. The goal of this role is to ensure that older populations have access to appropriate knowledge and resources to integrate into their communities and create pathways to connection, access mainstream and refugee-specific services, and to naturalize, by providing case management, removing barriers, and facilitating classroom-based activities. This role will support the daily operations of a wide variety of classes and workshops held at the International Rescue Committee, including for citizenship preparation, English language classes, digital literacy, and others.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide case management, beginning with performing an initial assessment of the needs and goals of the client, making appropriate referrals, and tracking progress towards goals over time.

  • Assisting older ORR-eligible populations with access to mainstream aging services in the community, through activities such as providing information about, or improving access to information, about supportive services, nutrition services, meal delivery, prevention of elder abuse, senior community centers, and intergenerational activities.

  • Providing older ORR-eligible populations with appropriate services that are not

available in the community, such as interpretation and translation services.

  • Developing opportunities for older ORR-eligible populations to connect with their

communities to avoid isolation, through resources such as mental health support, community navigators, and opportunities for engagement in social activities.

  • Assisting older ORR-eligible populations on the path to citizenship to naturalize,

especially those at risk of losing Supplemental Security Income or other federal benefits, through activities such as civics instruction, counseling, and application assistance.

  • Supporting the day-to-day operations of the IRC’s classroom-based services, either through classroom management, facilitation, record keeping, implementation of assessments, or other tasks.

  • Input client’s class attendance in database(s) and assist with tracking and reporting as needed.

  • Assist with pre and post assessments for English Language training.

  • Use personal, insured vehicle and/or public transportation (where available) to travel and transport clients and materials as needed throughout the service delivery area.

  • May provide interpretation services.

  • Other duties as assigned.

    REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree in social work or related field of study preferred.

  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations preferred.

  • Strong relationship building, diplomacy, and networking skills; ability to effectively build internal and external relationships.

  • Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in various global environments and contexts.

  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and manage time effectively.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work product.

  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; proficiency in language(s) spoken by client group is desired(Spanish, French, Pashto, Dari, Arabic, Swahili, and others).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

    Working Environment:

  • Combination of working in a standard office environment and work in the community including meetings with community partners.

  • Occasional weekend and/or evening work required.

    Compensation:Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
