Job Summary and Qualifications

This position supports the mission of Wesley Medical Center (WMC) of optimizing the quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. The Peer Review and Quality Coordinator is responsible for managing and providing direction for the Medical Staff Quality Program. The role will direct and coordinate medical staff quality programs (medical staff peer review, disruptive physicians and medical staff issues). Coordinates outside medical staff reviews when requested. Directs, prepares and supports medical staff quality programs and process improvements (Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluations, Focused Professional Practice Evaluations). This position acts as an internal consultant for all levels of the organization with skills in facilitation, coaching, change management and process improvement. Also provides internal consulting with expertise in strategies, methodologies, and resources for maximizing the use of data for process improvement. This position will also lead the Medical Staff Quality Program toward process improvement. This includes strategic planning and coordination of the program, team and project management and reporting to Medical Staff Leadership with measurable outcomes. Coordination of the program to query multiple databases for clinical, administrative, peer review and credentialing data. Manages systematic collection and reporting of selected quality indicators. Identifies and incorporates comparative and benchmark practices into reporting. Participates in interdisciplinary task forces, committees, and councils as appropriate. Performs routine and intensive medical record audits. Aggregates, analyzes, displays, presents, and maintains physician specific quality data. Supports Medical Staff Quality Committees. Works in conjunction with Medical Staff Leaders, Department Managers and Directors, and all privileged providers.

The Peer Review and Quality Coordinator displays positive support for the values and mission of WMC and performs delegated duties consistent with the scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan of care at WMC. Assists the director in consulting with members of the organization to meet compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements including, CMS, TJC and State of Kansas requirements. Reporting to the Director of Medical Staff Services, this individual will be responsible for coordination of those systems necessary to identify, evaluate, monitor, and improve processes resulting in clinical excellence.

What qualifications you will need:

  • Current licensure in the State of Kansas as a Registered Nurse, or current active multistate Registered Nurse license. Or, applicable experience in medical staff quality and peer review. Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ) preferred.

  • Degree in Nursing, Health Administration or Bachelor degree in healthcare field or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

  • Hospital clinical and/or hospital medical staff quality experience preferred.

· Must possess outstanding interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, and problem-solving skills.

· Possess PC skills in a Windows environment, specifically EXCEL, WORD, and PowerPoint.

· Project management, analytical skills, performance improvement/redesign.

· Must like to work in a high-performance environment and have a proven track record of success.

· Ability to organize and assist in survey activities for TJC and other regulatory or accreditation bodies.

· Must have the ability to design and develop performance measures, particularly as relates to medical staff and independent allied health professionals for peer review and ongoing professional practice evaluation.

· Must have experience in data analysis and statistical processes, experience in providing education and presentations, as well as policy and procedure development.

· Should have clinical experience that provides necessary knowledge and skill to assist medical staff leadership in evaluating competency of physicians and independent allied health professionals via peer review and ongoing evaluation, as well as providing guidance and assistance in implementing focused evaluations when needed.
