Medical Laboratory Scientist
Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our team. The responsibilities for this role are interchangeable with the titles of Medical Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist. The successful candidate will determine the acceptability of specimens for testing, perform routine and complex technical procedures, and ensure the proper functionality of laboratory instrumentation. You will make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving, prepare and evaluate new reagents or controls, and report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care. Additionally, you will perform preventive maintenance, replenish testing supplies, assist with specimen processing, and maintain a safe work environment.
Responsibilities
Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
Replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

Experience in hospital lab or medical laboratory
Medical technologist skills
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology
Minimum 2-4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience
State Medical Technologist license (if required)
ASCP or AMT certification (if required or preferred)
Ability to work independently and within a team environment
Proficiency with computers and familiarity with laboratory information systems
High level of attention to detail
Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to pass a standardized color vision screen
Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
Work Environment
The position is for the 2nd shift, Monday through Friday, with rotating Saturdays, from 1pm to 9pm.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00
