Job Description Summary:

This is a unique pediatric opportunity that blends community feel and size, tertiary care spectrum of diagnoses and acuity, robust pediatric resources, and traditional university-based academic opportunities in a clinical setting with a large geographic referral base. Our inpatient consultation service has access to a superb pediatric forensic nursing staff, social work support, and child life. As a department we serve as the primary teaching faculty in inpatient and outpatient pediatrics for our residents and medical students. This position reports to the Child Abuse and Neglect Division Director. CV and cover letter required.

Job Description:

Required Qualifications:

  • MD/DO Degree
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure to practice medicine in the state of Kansas
  • Board eligible or certified in Child Abuse Pediatrics

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of previous clinical experience and continuing education in the area of child maltreatment. This would include a completed fellowship in child abuse pediatrics.
  • Previous experience teaching in an academic setting

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the teaching of students and residents
  • Demonstrated proficiency in clinical practice
  • Ability to work cooperatively, collegially, and professionally within a multi-disciplinary team environment

Job Duties Outlined:

Clinical - 80%

  • Provide direct patient care (inpatient and outpatient) for infants, children, and adolescents
  • Provide consultation on inpatient infants, children, and adolescents in collaboration with our hospitalist, critical care, and ambulatory teams
  • Work in conjunction with pediatric subspecialists to provide effective and integrated care
  • Participate in quality improvement and patient safety activities to improve efficiency, safety, and clinical outcomes for patients

Scholarship, program development - 10%

  • Opportunity to lead scholarly (research/quality improvement/clinical trials) projects, mentor residents and other learners in scholarly projects, lead applications for external program funding and other grant support
  • Work in partnership with state agencies as part of the Medical Resource Center. This includes providing guidance to CPS, as well as training and mentoring pediatric providers across the state
  • Serve on selected departmental and hospital committees and/or community partner multidisciplinary teams as requested by the section director, division chief or chair

Education - 10%

  • Participate in curriculum development for the resident and student on child abuse rotations or electives, assuring that ACGME and LCME standards are met
  • Educate, supervise, and participate in the evaluation process of residents, medical students, and other allied health trainees
  • Attend and actively participate in section, division, and departmental meetings
  • Maintain board certification in pediatrics and child abuse pediatrics
