Duties:PublicHealth Nurse in this position will work in all aspects of AdultHealth. This PHN also functions in the expanded nursing role withduties relating to managing the surveillance, investigation, andreporting necessary to control communicable disease in this county. Thenurse should have successfully completed the Basic TB course, AdultPhysical Assessment course as well as the STD Nurse Clinician Course.Adult Health consists of but is not limited to the following programs:Health Promotion, Breast and Cervical Cancer Control, TB, CommunicableDisease, Hypertension, Diabetes (DVP), STD, AIDS, and Cancer Detection.Some of the duties of this position include ensuring all commonSexually Transmitted Diseases are screened, actively investigated,treated and followed. Serve as a resource person for STD/HIV/AIDSrelated issues. Provides direct care to patient requesting servicesincluding examination, screening and treatment under thepolicies/procedures. Order and maintain appropriate medications asneeded for all adult health clinics.Assist with Health PromotionProgram.Administer injections of Hepatitis B, B-12 and allergy shotsAdminister TB skin test and assesses them. Complete Epidemiology forms,perform venipunctures for SMACs, prepare sputum cans for AFB andinstruct client on collection. Directly observe medication therapy.Review prophylactic medication with clients and provide HIV assessment,counseling and testing. Nurse will be required to complete the AdultPhysical Assessment Course as well as the STD Nurse Clinician Course.
Minimum Education and Experience:(PHNIII) - Completion of approximately three months of training thatincludes both a didactic and on-the-job supervision phase in theexpanded role specialty to which assigned AND graduation from afour-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes aPublic Health Nursing rotation and two years of Public Health nursingexperience; or a Masters in Public Health and graduation from a schoolof professional nursing and two years of professional nursingexperience; or graduation from a school of professional nursing andthree years of professional nursing experience including two years ofPublic Health nursing experience; or an equivalent combination oftraining and experience [Note: three months training can be obtainedconcurrently with other experience required for position ].
Consider Work Against:PHN I - Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S.in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation, or Mastersin Public Health and graduation from a school of professional nursing;or graduation from a school of professional nursing and one year ofprofessional nursing experience; or an equivalent combination oftraining and experience.
