Intermediate Field and Laboratory Materials Technologist
The Opportunity:
WSP is currently seeking a highly motivated Intermediate Materials Technologist to join our Ground Engineering and Materials Team based in the City of Whitehorse ,YT . This position is available in our Whitehorse office and laboratory. You will join our highly successful team, using your skills to assist in the management and execution of various high-profile and critical projects throughout BC and Yukon. WSP will support relocation and accommodation for candidates wishing to relocate.

A day in the life:
You'll be working with interdisciplinary project teams that can offer high complexity work, and a chance to challenge yourself and what you've learned so far, and an opportunity push your skills to the next level with an experienced team and, collaborative managers who are among the best in the industry.
Leading and performing material testing field assignments, including soil and concrete testing works throughout Whitehorse and across the Yukon;
Main point of contact for operations at our Whitehorse laboratory, including our soil and concrete testing regime, and test results reporting;
Collaborating with our wider team of technologists and engineers to provide technical services in a field and laboratory environment related to geotechnical engineering;
Participating and contributing to a team environment and being a strong communicator;
Promoting strong workplace health and safety practices;
You'll be representing WSP in the community to raise local brand awareness.
What you'll bring to WSP ...
A diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology;
Either possess or be eligible for CTech (Certified Technician) or AScT (Applied Science Technologist) certification.
Confidence with remote work and assignment to projects in the northern environment;
Intermediate level of experience as a field technologist and as a laboratory technician;
Experience with soil compaction testing using a portable nuclear gauge, and with concrete testing in the field setting;
Experience with soil index testing, and concrete cylinder testing in the laboratory.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and strong verbal and written communication in English are essential.
Added Value: familiarity with geotechnical subsurface drilling, soil characterization, and with utilizing geotechnical instrumentation such as a slope inclinometer probes and vibrating wire piezometer data logging.

Valid BC Driver’s License.
Strong technical, oral and written communication skills;
A minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience as a materials field and laboratory technologist, or related position;
Exceptional technical and leadership skills; and,
Ability to work well with senior direction, under pressure, meet deadlines and cooperate with a team in various environment.
