Summary This Mail Clerk position is located in Supply Chain Management Service at the White River Junction VA Healthcare System location. This position is a full-time at 40 hrs. per week. Responsibilities This position performs work related to the processing of incoming or outgoing mail and the performance of related work requiring the application of established mail methods and procedures, knowledge of prescribed systems for governing the flow and control of communications, and knowledge of the organization and functions of the operating unit or units serviced in order to route mail of various types and a general nature Duties include but are not limited to: Performs various related clerical duties such as facing, sacking, bundling, wrapping of outgoing materials Sorting bulk mail from post office Rerouting misdirected mail Date stamping Counting mail Screening for priority items Preparing routing and control forms Maintaining an up-to-date directory by name, room and telephone number Forwarding address for use in work assignment Other duties as assigned. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: General Experience: You must have at least one (1) full year of general experience, including but not limited to: progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 2 years above high school. NOTE: If using education to qualify, a copy of your transcript is required. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You may also combine successfully completed education and general experience as outlined above to meet the requirements of the position. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: Work involves long periods of standing and sitting. Performance of mailroom duties involves some lifting and carrying of boxes. The majority of work is performed in a mail room setting. The incumbent may be required to transfer and pick up mail in other buildings which expose him/her to the weather for short periods of time.
