Job Description:
The Data Center Engineer is responsible for the design, operation, maintenance, and optimization of data center infrastructure and IT systems. This role combines responsibilities for managing servers, networking equipment, storage, power systems, cooling, and environmental controls to ensure high availability, reliability, and efficiency. The engineer will also focus on capacity planning, structured cabling, and compliance with industry standards and security protocols.

Senior Data Center Engineer
Hiring Salary Range: $106,000-$135,000
Actual compensation offer to candidate may vary outside of the posted hiring salary range based upon work experience, education, and/or skill level.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the operation and maintenance of data center infrastructure, including servers, networking equipment, storage systems, power systems, fire suppression/detection, and environmental controls.
Design and manage the physical layout of the data center to optimize space, power, and cooling efficiency.
Monitor and maintain environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity, and airflow to ensure compliance with industry standards.
Perform hardware installation, configuration, and upgrades, including racking, stacking, and cabling.
Develop and enforce high-level standards for structured cabling, equipment installation, and documentation.
Drive continuous improvement efforts by analyzing data center performance metrics and identifying opportunities for optimization.
Conduct capacity planning for space, power, cooling, and hardware to support current and future requirements.
Implement and maintain structured cabling systems, ensuring proper labeling, patching, and documentation.
Collaborate with technology and facilities teams to align infrastructure with operational needs and business goals.
Develop and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for data center operations.
Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance of critical systems, including power distribution units (PDUs), uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), generators, and HVAC systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, network, and system-related issues promptly to minimize downtime.
Manage vendor relationships, including procurement, installation, and maintenance of data center equipment.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, security protocols, and regulatory requirements, including certifications such as Uptime Institute Tier Standards and ASHRAE guidelines.
Lead disaster recovery and business continuity planning efforts related to the data center.
Utilize and oversee the implementation of data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools for monitoring, reporting, and optimization.
Act as a liaison with executive leadership to report on data center performance and strategic initiatives.
Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures and attain knowledge and remain knowledgeable of regulations, laws, standards, and best practices applicable to functional area.

Qualifications:
Education and Training:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or a related field.
An MS, MBA, or related advanced degree desired.
Expertise in designing and managing enterprise-grade data center environments.
Knowledge and Experience:
Eight (8) years’ experience in data center operations, infrastructure management, or facilities engineering, including leadership or senior-level responsibilities.
In-depth knowledge of power and cooling systems, including advanced UPS configurations, generators, and HVAC systems.
Advanced proficiency in structured cabling, racking, and equipment optimization.
Strong understanding of network protocols, server operating systems, and virtualization technologies.
Experience with data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tools and analytics for capacity planning and monitoring.
Familiarity with industry standards and best practices, including Uptime Institute, ASHRAE, BICSI, and TIA-942 certifications.
Experience working within a utility or energy sector is desired.
