POSITION PURPOSE / IMPORTANT APPLICATION INFORMATION This is a three (3)-year, temporary, benefited professional engineering position in the Department of Public Works and Utilities responsible for plan review of private development and capital improvement projects involving drainage, transportation and other infrastructure projects. The incumbent is a liaison to consulting engineers, developers, contractors, the community, and other agencies on a number of private development projects. Additionally, this position will necessitate a strong understanding of the typical development review process and be able to review pedestrian trails, bridges, water, wastewater, and reclaimed water systems.
Major responsibilities include review of development projects throughout the city. Work is performed with appreciable latitude for independent judgement and action that is reviewed by the Development Engineering Administrator through observation, conferences, reports, and achievement of desired objectives. This position will require attendance at occasional evening meeting
This is a full time, benefited, temporary position and will last for a duration of up to three (3) years. The full salary range for this position is stated above and is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate. The 2025 salary range for the Engineer is $91,797 to $114,744 per year; for the Senior Engineer the salary range is $114,020 to $142,537 per year; and for the Principal Engineer the salary range is $131,775 to $164,713. The Principal Engineer progression is contingent upon requirements mentioned below in section V (five). Depending on qualifications, the applicant will meet either all of the criteria for Engineer, Senior Engineer, or Principal Engineer. POSITION REQUIREMENTS/WORKING CONDITIONS/PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS Education, Experience, Skills, Formal Training, Licenses, and Certifications Required:
Graduation from an accredited four (4)-year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or closely related field Must possess a valid driver's license, provide proof of a safe driving record, and maintain a safe driving record for continued employment Engineer: Minimum of one (1) year of experience in the design or review of public improvement projects, with an emphasis on drainage and transportation projects Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification Senior Engineer: Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in the design or review of public improvement projects, with an emphasis on drainage and transportation projects Registration with the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as a Professional Engineer (PE) is required; if registered as a Professional Engineer is another state, the ability to obtain registration with the Colorado State Board of Licensure for Architects, Professional Engineers and Professional Land Surveyors within six (6) months is required
Preferred: Engineer: Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in the design or review of public improvement projects, with an emphasis on drainage and transportation.
