In this job, you will serve as an Environmental Lab Chemist and reports to the Laboratory Supervisor in the Material Test Lab within Southern California Edison's (SCE) Environmental Services Department (ESD) Business Unit. The primary focus of the position will be to provide full analytical laboratory support to SCE’s internal customers. Typical responsibilities include: Receiving, logging and testing of transformer oil samples (including PCB by Gas Chromatography); performing routine preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment; preparing oil test reports, including inputting data into Transformer Oil Analysis software (TOA4) and reporting results to customers; performing Quality Control (QC) and maintaining quality control data records; maintaining safety and cleanliness at work place; identifying opportunities for improvement in quality of work; and performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned. This position will be responsible for working overtime, including after-hours and weekend call outs when needed.   • Demonstrated experience gathering, validating, and integrating data from different sources.

  • Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions that have considerable business impact.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to manage risks and safety appropriately.

  • Must be able to work overtime including after hours and weekend call outs when needed.

  • Must demonstrate effective resource and project planning, decision making, results delivery, team building, and the ability to stay current with relevant technology and innovation.

The essentials

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry

  • Must have 2-3 or more years of hands-on working with chemicals and performing analysis in an environmental lab.

The preferred

  • Demonstrated experience with CA ELAP/ Laboratory Accreditation process.

  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management (LIMS)

  • Experience with performing PCB analysis using EPA method 8082/8082A.

  • Demonstrated experience creating lab test reports.

  • Demonstrated experience using the table and chart functions in Microsoft Excel.

  • Demonstrated experience using Microsoft Word to create documents, such as lab procedure documents.

  • Demonstrated experience with Gas Chromatography

  • Demonstrated experience performing Quality Control (QC) checks per EPA test methods and maintaining QC records.

  • Must have hands-on proficiency working with Microsoft Office experience.

You should know

  • This position’s work mode is ONSITE.  The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to reside in the state of California.  Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage.
