State of Massachusetts Registered Nurse IV - House Supervisor in Westfield, Massachusetts
Western Massachusetts Hospital operated by the Department ofPublic Health (DPH)is seekingan experienced Registered Nurse to serveasthe NursingHouseSupervisor.Weare aspecialtycare hospital providingin-patientservices toindividualsinneedof ventilator/respiratory,endoflifecare,neuromuscular, Alzheimer’s, and chronic care.The selected candidate supervises and coordinates patient care staff and nursing care activities throughout the facility during an assigned shift for adult and/geriatricpatientsbygenerating nursingassignmentsand timeschedules. The NursingHouseSupervisor willassess compliance withJCAHOand facilitystandards,physicianordersand treatmentplansas wellasensuring continuity of care andcompletion ofNursingCare Plan (NCP). Theidealcandidate will havetwo(2) years’experienceas aregistered nursesupervisorand willcombine theknowledge,clinicalskills,andjudgment necessary to perform all nursing procedures asoutlined in the scope of practice. As a member of the nursing staff, the incumbent will assume expanded functions in the provision of services including compliance with JCAHO/facility standards, physician orders and individual care plans. _PleaseNote:_This position is 40 hours per week, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM shift and will share weekend/holiday coverage and other shifts as operationally needed. Employees in this position will be required to perform mandatory overtime /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive):_/ · Providesdirectionin thedeliveryofquality nursingcare toculturallydiverseadult/geriatricpatient populations; supervises nursing staffand patient care activities on assigned units for all shifts. · Ensures the developmentof an individual care plan for each patient. · Assigns and prepares time schedules for staff to ensure adequate 24/7 nursingcoverage as defined by the hospital staffing system. · Provides staff, patientand family membersinstruction and educational case conferences to confirm continuity of care andcompliance with facility standardsand regulations. · Evaluatesnursing activities by reviewing patientcharts,observing care, visiting patients/families to safeguard nursing care and treatment inaccordance with physicians’ instructions. · Fosters highstandardsofcarethrough theprovisionofdiligentorientationandcontinuing educationeffortsofstaffincluding best practices, teamwork and professional development. · Investigatescomplaintsbypatientsandothers,andattempts toresolvesuchcomplaints. · Perform clinical tasks in adherence to acceptable standards of nursing practice to ensure that the care providedis safeand effective; performthe duties as a chargenurse as necessary · Orchestrates the transfer of patients toother health care facilities for emergency and routine services as needed. · Coordinates supplies and equipment to ensure established inventory levels; recommend to nursing administration purchase of new equipment toimproveand/ormaintainthequalityofpatientcare · Provides feedbackand performance appraisals to assigned staff; documentsstaff performance matters through progressive discipline when appropriate. · Participatesin aschedule to workas theHouse Supervisor on weekends, holidays, on other shifts and asadministratively required. /_Required Qualifications:_/ · Knowledge of the principles and practices ofsupervision,includingplanningandassigningwork accordingto the natureofthejob tobeaccomplished, thecapabilitiesofsubordinatesand available resources; controlling work through periodic reviews and/or evaluations; determining staff training needsand providing or arranging forsuchtraining; and either recommending orinitiatingdisciplinaryaction. · Ability to prepare statistical reports and maintain accurate records. · Talent forproviding writtenandoralinstructionsin aprecise, understandablemanner. · Capacity to participate in inter-disciplinary health care teams. · Skilledinestablishingrapportanddeal tactfully withpersons from variedethnic,cultural,economicbackgrounds, and/or under physical, emotionalstress,orin stressful settings. · Willingness to work varied shifts and/orirregular hours/weekends, holidays, nights. /_Preferred Qualifications_//:/ · Two(2) years’ experience as a Registered Nurse Supervisor. · Meditech & Meta experience, CPR and IV certification. · Sound knowledge ofphilosophy,principles, practices, and theories of public healthandpublichealthnursing. · Demonstrated knowledge of standard nursing policies, procedures,methods, techniques, safety practices and medical terminology/abbreviations. · Ability toestablishrelationships withindividuals, families,providers,physiciansandstaffmembers. · Proficient usage of Microsoft Office productsincludingWord,Excel,andOutlook. /_About Western MA Hospital:_/ The Western Massachusetts Hospital is the only public hospital operating in the western region of Massachusetts with a mission to serve as a medical safety net for many uninsured and under-insured citizens residing in the region.
