Trinity Health Respiratory Therapist, RT - NICU - Mount Carmel St. Ann's - Casual in Westerville, Ohio

*This position is located at Mount Carmel St. Ann's & New Albany (contingent, nights)

Position Purpose:

  • The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT or CRT), within the Ohio Scope of Practice, provides therapeutic procedures and diagnostic testing to chronically and acutely ill patients requiring respiratory procedures.

What You Will Do:

  • Communicate with the RN and NNP respiratory status, changes, blood gas results.

  • Run blood gas samples, maintain and troubleshoot ABL blood gas machine

  • Set up, documentation, troubleshooting, and management of HFOV, Servo-U ventilator, F &P Flexi trunk BCPAP system, HFNC, transcutaneous monitoring and breathing treatments.

  • Attend high risk deliveries.

  • Assist with initial NRP resuscitation guidelines - NRP certification is required.

  • Assist the RN with skin assessment - including 2 person cares, baths, offer containment and management of respiratory devices as needed.

  • Apply respiratory principles and skills to prevent, identify, and treat acute or chronic dysfunctions of the cardiopulmonary system

  • Offer preventative care as well as educate, assess, and treat patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies

  • respond to alarms and treat as appropriate

  • communicate with the RN/NNP needed interventions

  • Assist in covering the unit for lunches and/or breaks as determined by the charge RN.

  • Follow the Neonatal Respiratory Practice Guidelines that are found on the Neonatal Network service line web page.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Successful completion of a 2 or 4 year Respiratory Care Program, or completion of additional educational requirements allowing eligibility to obtain registry credentials.

  • Licensure / Certification: Ohio Respiratory Care Professional License to practice in the State of Ohio and National Board of Respiratory Care credential indicating RRT or CRT

  • Experience: Clinical experience in adult and neonatal respiratory therapy procedures such as aerosolized delivery of medication, mechanical ventilation, assisting with intubations and extubations, pulmonary function studies, emergency care, and obtaining and interpreting arterial blood gases.

  • Maintain current BLS certification.
