Bombardier Workshop Operations Manager in Westerham, United Kingdom

Bombardier’s Business Aircraft London Service Centre in Biggin Hill is part of an award-winning network and is the flagship of Bombardier’s European operation. This Base and Line Maintenance Centre is the fastest-growing Service Centre in Europe and the largest Business Aircraft OEM in the UK. The facility has the capabilities to perform an array of maintenance checks, modifications and upgrades all from this site. What are your contributions to the team?

Role, Responsibilities and Engagements

Responsible for assigned aircraft maintenance employees and the daily and overall operations of workshops within the MRO, including technical performance, safety, schedules, personnel, quality control, and the performance of all component activities for multiple workshops.

  • Lead in the development of strategic plans to support new programs and capabilities based on analysis of market trends including the growth of the workshop capabilities within the UK including engine, paint shop, structures.

  • Oversee daily workshop operations staff which in its current capacity includes Battery, NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) and wheel workshops

  • Review and implement annual department budget including workforce requirements and approve payment of vendors’ or suppliers’ invoices

  • Develop existing in-house capability across the different workshops to fully support the requirements of the operations department and customer requirements

  • Achieve monthly financial objectives for workshops i.e., labour margin, capital expenditures, and budgeted operating expenses

  • Ensure all maintenance performed on aircraft, engines, avionics, and aircraft components meet CAA/EASA regulations, as well as customer quality expectations

  • Maintain compliance with relevant Health & Safety guidelines (HSE and/or OHSA as applicable), as well as all local environmental laws

  • Interface with customer representatives, coordinate customer communication activities and resolve any questions or disputes on customer invoiced for performed maintenance

  • Determine staff training needs to maintain work force qualifications and productivity

  • Ensure proper tooling and equipment is available to support operational requirements

  • Actively support and integrate continuous improvement activities into program procedures and processes

  • Collect and analyse service and maintenance data to identify trends and ensure margin performance is achieved

  • Assist in the development of strategic plans to support new programs and capabilities based on analysis of market trends.

How to thrive in this role?

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

  • Have previous and proven experience working in an aircraft maintenance facility environment with at least 1-year supervisory experience

  • Demonstrate effective leadership and coaching skills with the ability to develop people

  • Have demonstrable experience with a Component Repair and Overhaul environment

  • Prior knowledge in setting up workshops, working with the regulators and implementing relevant policies and procedures to support the development

  • Have working knowledge of process improvement methodology and application

  • Have accounting and budgeting principals’ acumen necessary to read and interpret profit/loss statements, financial reports, and meet financial objectives for assigned area and programs

  • Be familiar with Environmental, Health & Safety rules and regulations

  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

  • Possess strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to forecast labor and skill requirements

  • Have excellent presentation skills necessary to effectively communicate with customers and all levels of management

  • Have research and analytical skills necessary to collect, analyse, and interpret survey data, customer behaviors, and general trends within the applicable aircraft market to help grow the capability.
