CH2M HILL BWXT West Valley, LLC (CHBWV) is the prime contractor selected by the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Phase 1 Facility Disposition Project at the West Valley Demonstration Project. The site is a scenic 30-minute drive south of Buffalo, New York. In cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, CHBWV continues to decontaminate and decommission facilities at this site.

JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITION: Provides support to the Radiation Protection Program by maintaining, calibrating, troubleshooting and configuring radiological instrumentation. Maintains and troubleshoots equipment and projects analytical needs based on phased project requirements. Provides real-time and lagging empirical data for solutions to radiological safety problems and deficiencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: High School education with courses in algebra, biology, chemistry, and/or physics or GED equivalency. Minimum of five (5) years of related experience. Requires successful completion of Radiological Worker II within first 30 days of hire. B. Preferred Qualifications: Experience in minor electrical trouble shooting and repair of handheld instrumentation circuitry. Use of ANSI Instrumentation Calibration and Standards. Minimum of (3) years experience in troubleshooting and repair of radiological protection.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK: Maintain a safe and healthful work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations. Adhere to standards contained in the Company Code of Conduct, Company EEO practices, and DOE directives. Make recommendations or improvements on procurement of components, systems, spare parts, portable test equipment requirements, work scheduling, training, etc. Maintains accurate records of calibrations, testing and analytical work performed. Computes, analyzes and records test data.

Radiological Laboratory duties include: Assists personnel with Radiological Control Manual interpretation, support, and instruction. Performs highly specialized sample analyses of unknown radioactivity content. Maintains special purpose equipment by evaluating its performance and interpreting and analyzing operating difficulties. Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturers instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
