Intermountain Health Medical Assistant Apprentice in West Valley City, Utah

Job Description:

A Medical Assistant Apprentice is responsible for learning the Medical Assistant trade at Intermountain Healthcare while attending a Medical Assistant Program.

This position pays $17.60 an hour.

Hours - for the around the first 90 days, Monday - Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to noon at Intermountain Health Lake Park Site: 4646 Lake Park Blvd, West Valley City, UT 84120

After this, you will work the hours needed to meet the needs of the clinic where you will complete your required 1,200 clinical hours. For the 1,200 clinical hours, you will be partnered with a Medical Assistant Preceptor.

Interviews will be conducted on July 10th, 2024 for an August 5, 2024 start date

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Possesses aptitude for the Medical Assistant trade.

  2. Essential read-only use and navigation of electronic medical records.

  3. Responsible for quality and continuous improvement within the job scope throughout all rotations once you have completed a 90 day to MA class. Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate IMH’s commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care, and concern with internal and external customers.

  4. Observes vital signs and other pertinent patient information while shadowing their preceptor.

  5. Responsible for all actions/responsibilities as described in company-controlled documentation for this position. Contributes to and supports the corporation's quality initiatives by adopting and communicating the corporation's quality improvement efforts.

  6. Uses, protects, and discloses HCP patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

  7. Observes/view various procedures such as ear lavage, ECG, spirometry, injections, peak flows, pulse oximetry, breathing treatments, suture removals, wound dressings, vision/hearing tests, urine pregnancy tests, urine dips, blood glucose testing, and blood hemoglobin (hemocue) testing.

  8. Assists clinicians with procedures that vary in levels of complexity while with a preceptor.

  9. Shadows preceptor on patient on lab, radiology, and other procedure/testing preparations.

  10. Observes in visit closure with patient and clinician for next steps for lab, x-ray, referrals, DME, etc.

  11. Inquires and is open-minded to learning the Medical Assistant trade throughout the organization.

  12. Observes the handling and delivery of patient service recovery methods Participates regularly in skills aptitude training and evaluations. Participates regularly in site staff and department meetings, huddles, etc.

  13. Maintains and cleans exam/treatment areas, specimen processing areas, and medical equipment with the support of the mentee; Stocks exam rooms, treatment/procedure rooms, specimen processing areas, and nursing stations with the support of the preceptor

  14. Escalate potential emergency situations to the appropriate level.

  15. Promotes mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Health, and abides by service behavior standards.

  16. May be required to float to other departments (within scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need.

  17. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift.

EDUCATION

Required: High School Diploma or GED required

Selected for our 90-day Medical Assistant program.

Required: Successful completion of a 90-day class instruction to move to clinical portion of training program.
