American Express’ Global Commercial Services (GCS) offers a wide range of card and payment programs, expense management tools, consulting services, business financing and cross-border payments solutions to small businesses, mid-sized companies and large corporations around the world. The Buyer Initiated Payments (BIP) is part of the B2B Payments within Global Commercial Services. The BIP team strives to provide flexible and digital financing solutions for business customers of all sizes in lead markets around the world and drive key business outcomes.

BIP supports B2B & International payments, one of the fastest growing segments of our business. We are looking for a high performing and enthusiastic Senior Engineer to join Buyer Initiated Payments (BIP) in GCS at American Express in Burgess Hill.

This is a great opportunity to join a high-visibility, high-priority Engineering team and help sustain and accelerate the growth of GCS charge volume by taking an innovative and collaborative approach to modernize the tech stack in partnership with key stakeholders.

In this role, you will partner closely with our product owners within collaborative scrum teams, in an environment that values interesting technical challenges, using best practice design approaches.

How will you make an impact in this role?

  • Performs all technical aspects of software development for assigned applications including architecture, design, writing code and unit tests, and conducting code reviews.

  • Analyse business features and user stories and refine with the Product Owner to appropriately support design and build activities.

  • Help to lead front end web development and work closely with back-end and other front-end engineers to implement versatile solutions.

  • Conduct thorough code reviews to ensure adherence to best practices, coding standards, and security guidelines.

  • Provide technical leadership and contribute to architectural decisions.

  • Mentor and guide junior developers to foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

  • Good attitude, communication, willingness to learn and work on new technologies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Preferably a BS or MS degree in computer science, computer engineering, or other technical discipline.

  • Strong experience working in React, ES6, Javascript, Node, Kotlin or Java.

  • Able to demonstrate strong web fundamentals & knowledge of DOM.

  • Hands on experience with Spring Boot, Rest APIs in production environments

  • Experience in Micro-Frontend, Microservice architecture and API design.

  • Knowledge of relational such as Oracle and No SQL Databases

  • Experience in using test libraries (Junit, Jest/React testing library/Enzyme).

  • Experience with Event Driven and Reactive Programming is a plus.

  • Experience of working with CI/CD pipelines

  • Experience in an Agile development environment and working with key product stakeholders.

  • Good communication skills - able to explain concepts to product managers and business partners in ways that are meaningful to them.

  • Demonstrate a passion for continuous learning and willingness to adopt new technologies.

  • Comfortable with mentoring and coaching less experienced engineers.

  • 8 years of relevant industry experience.
