Job Description:

We are seeking a Heat Treater and Blaze Furnace Operator A/B/C to work at our West Palm Beach, FL facility to s et up and operation of Heat treating and controlled atmospheric brazing furnaces to braze rocket engine thrust chambers and other assemblies where vacuum, explosive and/or inert gas (Hydrogen, Argon) atmospheres are used in production.

The position may be filled at the level of the identified candidate.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform complete setup and operation of electric and gas fired furnaces, performing various duties. such as: lighting furnaces, install temperature charts, load and unload retorts, grind open retorts, insulate front of furnace with fire brick leaving opening for instrumentation wires and gas lines when running retorts with controlled atmosphere, setup program for heat cycle, and activate computer program to control heat-up and/or heat cycle, purge retorts to obtain proper atmosphere, check for leaks, connect thermocouples, and place retort in furnace, regularly taking dew point and temperature readings during cycle).

  • Setup and operate computer controlled gas & vacuum furnaces. Regularly monitor computer readings for proper furnace/program operation, taking remedial action when necessary, including notifying higher grade operator or supervisor.

  • Quench tools in proper solution and for proper time to achieve proper hardness. Avoid excessive distortion of parts and tools by following established handling methods and procedures when quenching.

  • Degrease parts, use deep freeze, and perform various material handling duties within and outside of the department.

  • Use various measuring instruments such as micrometers and dial indicators to check parts and tools for excessive distortion. Operate hardness testing equipment such as Rockwell and Brinell to check hardness of parts treated.

  • Load parts and start various pumps and cooling water before activating manually controlled furnace purge, setup program for heat cycle and activate to control heat cycle after purge is complete

  • Develop programs for complete purge and heat cycle and enter cycle data in computer, and be able to modify programs in mid-cycle when necessary. Check-out master computer control panels and make corrections or take other remedial action to avoid serious incidents when inconsistencies or problems are indicated.

  • Operate furnaces to perform difficult and more critical work, including retort chamber brazing and titanium assembly stress relieving.

  • Perform preventive maintenance on various equipment and systems. Maintain necessary tools, materials, and/or supplies to ensure steady workflow, as well as maintain a neat and clean work area.

  • Comply with environmental/safety regulations and programs requirements to ensure safe working conditions and to preserve a healthy environment. Comply with company quality and continuous improvement initiatives. Keep current with training certifications for compliance with governmental and company regulations.

  • Must carry or obtain applicable certifications to work in an environmentally controlled room.

  • Must pass the written and practical exam required for Heat Treated and Brazing Furnace Operator.

  • Pass a background investigation to obtain a security clearance (classified/secret)

    Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 5 years of experience in heat treating and brazing operations.

    Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Experience reading and interpreting graphic instructions such as drawings, sketches, models, or other visual aids. Perform mathematical calculations accurately and quickly.

  • Experience handling large (500lbs+) complex hardware with tooling and other handling devices (ie: hoists, rigging equipment pallet jacks, cranes, lifting straps, etc.).

  • Experience using measurement instruments to ensure parts are set-up and indicated properly to meet requirements.

    In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $33.76/hr - $51.91/hr. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
