Specific Responsibilities:

This is a Health Support Technician position in a Comprehensive Health Care Center. This position is assigned to the West Palm Beach Health Center to perform work duties and provide services in IDC Clinic. This position will be cross trained to support all departments of the West Palm Beach Health Center and travel to another satellite Center at the discretion of Administration to provide coverage and assist the team of providers with ensuring that the patients receive the required services needed at the initial visit due to the language barrier. This position requires independent judgment, initiative, applying general knowledge of business practices and skill in applying instructions to accomplish various job functions. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a Senior Community Health Nursing Supervisor.

This position is designated as a sensitive position and is required to maintain confidential information in accordance with Florida Department of Health (FDOH) Palm Beach County Health Department (CHD) Information Security Policy, Protocols and Procedures. This position may view, update and release ·CONFIDENITAL· medical information for continuity of care. This position will have access to the following system(s): Health Management System (HMS) for the purpose of reviewing patient medical records, scheduling patient return appointments as needed while patient is in clinic and print out patient schedules for clinic, (EHR) Electronic Health record for the purpose of reviewing patient medical records, printing of process notes, entering data, Internet In-Stock Inventory System {SIS) for ordering in-house supplies.

Support Services

  • Assist in preparation of patient medical records for clinic by placing all documents from front-line registration i.e., inside front prongs.

  • Assist in the filing of laboratory and consultation reports in patient medical record under appropriate section.

  • Ensures that patient's medical records are sent or taken back to the medical records department daily.

  • Retrieve patient medical record for clinic services from the proper designated window in the medical record department as needed.

  • Call all patients per policy, verify client name against record and or appointment schedule.

  • Perform, record vital signs in (EHR) electronic health record and document in patient record if applicable (B/P, Height, Weight Measurements).

  • Assist provider in examination room while physician performs patient examination or minor surgical procedures, collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by physician and label specimen appropriately, sanitize exam table, and prepare table for next patient.

  • Perform EKG's and Vision and Hearing Screening as needed.

  • Prepare and mail out broken appointment notification for patients.

  • Perform reminder calls daily to clients for next day appointment.

  • Maintain clean environment, maintains adequate supplies and equipment rooms, prepares exam rooms for next day clinic, and cleans rooms as needed, maintains inventory supplies, perform weekly inventory, orders supplies and checks invoices as supplies are delivered, submit delivery receipt to Administration Office.

  • Responsible on a scheduled rotation basis for cleaning the autoclave machine, maintain autoclave log, ordering of cleaning supplies and sterile pouches, labeling of sterile packaged instruments accordingly by date/initial, assist in orientation of new employees as needed for autoclave cleaning process.

  • Assist in orientation of new employees.

  • Participates in regularly scheduled clinic team meetings, staff meetings and attends designated in-service programs to keep updated to the DOH and PBC policies and procedures. Participates in training programs for staff education.

  • Assist with in GYN procedures to include Colposcopy and Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure (LEEP).

    Assist nurses in planning and making necessary home visits to clinic patients if applicable at the discretion of Administration.

  • This position will assist the nurses and the providers in the care of clients.

  • Participate in data collection for audit purposes.

  • Schedule appointments for the client in the HMS system, assist in the rescheduling of canceled appointments, document follow up in the medical records.

  • Participates in staff meetings, planning sessions and Quality Improvement Programs.

  • Attends staff meetings and in-service programs as assigned.

  • Assist in all clinics as needed.

    Perform other related duties as needed.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of computer programs (Microsoft word, E-mail)

  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology/techniques

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments for self

  • Ability to perform, record vital signs and document in patient record

  • (B/P, Height, Head Circumference and Weight Measurements, EKG, V1Sion and Hearing Screening)

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, customer service skills, communicate verbally in a courteous and effective manner.

  • Ability to collect and record in patient health record

  • Ability to prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients.

  • Assist with patient examination and or treatments

  • Ability to record patient broken appointments in medical record, prepare and mail out broken appointment notification for patients

  • Ability to inventory and prepare supply order form

  • Ability to collect routine laboratory specimens as directed by physician

  • Knowledge of Health Support Technician principles and practices

  • Knowledge of Electronic Health Record

  • Knowledge of Health Management System for scheduling/rescheduling appointments, printing appointment list

  • Ability to order supplies through the in-house (SIS) In-stock Supply Inventory System

    Qualifications:

  • Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
