Job Description

As an Additive Manufacturing (AM) Engineer at NNL, you'll have the opportunity to work alongside a talented team of experts on laser powder bed fusion and direct energy deposition technologies.  You will creatively support the design, development, and optimization of additive manufacturing processes and technologies and play a key role in the operation of an advanced additive manufacturing laboratory. This entry-level position is perfect for a recent graduate or early career individual looking to build a solid foundation in the rapidly evolving field of 3D printing and additive manufacturing. Key Responsibilities: Assist in the design, testing, and optimization of additive manufacturing processes for a range of materials and products. Work with CAD software to prepare models and ensure manufacturability in a 3D printing environment. Conduct material testing and process qualification for new additive manufacturing materials and techniques. Collaborate with senior engineers to develop best practices for AM workflows, process monitoring, and quality control. Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to machine operation, material compatibility, and print quality. Support the preparation and setup of additive manufacturing systems, including 3D printers, post-processing equipment, and related tools. Participate in the analysis and reporting of production data, identifying opportunities for efficiency improvements. Stay current with emerging trends and technologies in the additive manufacturing space and help implement innovative solutions. Work in an office and laboratory environment which includes qualifying for PPE like Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR)

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill

Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.

Preferred Skills

Familiarity with 3D CAD software and topological optimization software (e.g., PTC CREO, Materialise Magics, SolidWorks, 3DExpert). Operational understanding of L-PBF or DED systems and exposure to materials science or knowledge of materials used in AM. Understanding of fabrication or manufacturing techniques (e.g., GD&T, machining, welding) Experience with CNC or DED path planning software (e.g. PowerMill, Siemens NX) Experience with machine learning or machine vision software and/or scripting experience (e.g., Python, Matlab)

Pay Range $62,000.00 - $94,900.00 annually Salary information provided is a general guide line only.
