Job Summary:

The Statistician / Statistical Process Control Quality Engineer is expected to use statistical tools (such as SPC) and mathematical methods to collect, organize and interpret data to provide useful information. The use of data analysis techniques, combined with routine auditing of key process parameters is critical to evaluate and improve upon process capability. Defining the infrastructure for Statistical Process Control (SPC) for the company. Involved in data retrieval, interpretation, analysis, and display of specification data into visual SPC charts for KPI parameters. Applying statistical 3 sigma control limits and determining process capability indices. Determine the data needed to solve problems and apply mathematical theories to use the data to construct a solution. Responsible for defining quality parameters, collecting, and analyzing data, improving processes, and developing SPC standards.

Summary of Essential Job Duties:

  • Collect internal data from the operations departments.

  • Consolidating numerical data into databases.

  • Define, pursue, and implement the statistical Process Control platform for the company.

  • Apply calculation methodology and formulas to analyze and interpret the data.

  • Ensure data and calculations are accurate.

  • Interpret the data to find trends that drive continuous improvement activities.

  • Present the data and statistical findings to the organization.

  • Work close with designers and Engineers to understand data and provide relevant, informative insight.

  • Develop and implement statistical tools to collect, evaluate, monitor, and control quality of data in the production processes.

  • Develop procedures/methods to analyze the data and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Interpret the Blueprint drawings to establish quality parameters and process controls based on product specification.

  • Assist with the identification of KPI parameters to create control plan documents.

  • Determine processes that are out of specification and work with Manufacturing teams to improve the process.

  • Develop processes for establishing standards to implement SPC in operations.

  • Support root cause investigations on any internal or external non-conformance.

  • Collect and analyze data to report on any process deviations quickly.

  • Identify and pursue new gaging and inspection strategies, improving inspection efficiency and throughput.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Familiarity with QC inspection equipment and techniques.

  • Good mathematical, technical, and communication skills.

  • Familiar with Statistical Process Control and Statistical Process Control Software.

  • Ability to interpret optical and mechanical drawings, standards, and specifications.

  • Understanding of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, DVT, DFM, DOE, Gage R&R, Measurement System Analysis (MSA), SPC, Lean Manufacturing, 5S, DMAIC, PDCA, FAI, etc.

  • Ability to work alone or within teams.

  • Self-starter, capable of working with very little direction.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • Focused: quick learner, practical and strategic approach to work, prioritize work, committed.

  • Problem solver: analytical-minded, critical thinker, challenges the status quo.

  • Previous experience with Six Sigma, Minitab, and other statistical tools.

Requirements and Competencies:

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management. Able to logically assess the strengths and weaknesses of their own data and methods.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts. Use math to develop models and analyze data.

Experience/Certifications/Degrees Required:

  • 5 years’ experience in quality, statistics, applied math, computer science or related field. Also, it is beneficial to have knowledge in manufacturing, optical or engineering fields.

  • B.S. Preferred

  • Six Sigma Belts, Statistics certs, SPC

  • Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS-9100, AS9102, MIL-STD-810, MIL-PRF-13830, ISO 10-110 and other standards preferred.

  • Familiarity with control of government property preferred.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear. The job may also involve prolonged periods of sitting/standing.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus and see colors. May involve prolonged periods of magnified inspection (eye strain)

  • Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp.

  • The employee is frequently required to use the computer.

Work Environment:

  • May involve the use of oils and solvents.

  • Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions. (Lab Coats provided)

  • Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.

  • Safety Glasses are required

  • May require area specific safety training

  • This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in certain areas could be loud, requiring hearing protection.

  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particulates.

  • May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shift from one station to another, during the production process.
