Description

Shive-Hattery's West Des Moines office has an immediate opportunity for a Structural Engineer with 5 to 10 years of experience in the design and leadership of structural engineering projects.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Work in a team setting, collaborating with other disciplines to perform the design and construction administration services for education, civic, healthcare, and commercial projects of all sizes. This is a building design-focused position, including design of new construction and renovations. However, industrial-related projects may also be included.
  • Lead the structural design portion of projects, make design recommendations and decisions, and oversee the completion and quality of construction drawings, specifications, reports, and other project documentation. Collaborate with senior engineers as needed for overall direction and problem-solving.
  • Provide direction to less experienced engineers and designers assisting with project work, or willingness and ability to develop this capability
  • Mentor and teach other team members as your experience grows
  • Establish and manage structural scope, schedule, and budget, or willingness and ability to develop this capability
  • Visit project sites and provide technical assistance to help resolve construction issues
Requirements
  • Professional Engineer licensure in Iowa or the ability for immediate licensure in Iowa
  • 5-10 years of structural engineering experience in the design, modification, and evaluation of building and non-building structures in a variety of project types
  • Structural design experience with steel, concrete, and masonry; experience with wood design is a plus
  • Experience using Revit, structural engineering design software, and Microsoft Office
  • Good attention to detail
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively, which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing work; capable of working on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Able to drive and have access to an automobile, climb ladders and work off of elevated platforms and open grating, and wear personal protective equipment required for specific clients and sites
