Job Description:

Job Title: Retail Compliance Food Protection Supervisor

Department: Compliance and Food Protection

FLSA: Exempt

General Function:

Facilitates the Hy-Vee food protection program with assigned retail stores to provide guidance and address questions or issues on food safety to help facilities remain in compliance with regulatory requirements and Hy-Vee standards.

Reporting Relations:

Accountable and Reports to: Director, Retail Compliance and Food Protection

Indirectly Reports to: Vice President or Assistant Vice President - Compliance and Food Protection, and Regional Vice President

Positions that Report to you: None

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct routine food safety and sanitation assessments of assigned stores.

  • Prepare and communicate individual store report based on assessment identifying food protection and sanitation issues.

  • Assess and insure store compliance with OSHA requirements

  • Track and measure results of assigned stores

  • Prepare monthly and quarterly summary reports.

  • Provide support to project managers during remodel and new store construction projects.

  • Participate in preliminary and final health department inspection to obtain proper licenses for new stores and remodels.

  • Follow up on state inspections to insure serious violations or non-compliance are corrected.

  • Provide food safety and sanitation training and coaching to store staff

Education and Experience:

  • Prior work experience in food safety, food processing, quality assurance desired.

  • Experience and knowledge of retail merchandising and operations a plus.

  • High school degree or equivalent required - post-secondary degree a plus.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual requirements include: ability to see detail at near and far range with or without correction, normal depth perceptions.

  • Must be physically able to perform light work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of no more than 20 pounds, and occasionally standing or walking for extended periods

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

The duties of this position are generally performed in a general office setting but will also require work in retail food locations. There will be some exposure to food handling equipment and processes, temperature extremes from walk-in coolers and freezers, and cleaning chemical products. There will be occasional pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects in a day.

Equipment Used to Perform Job:

Standard equipment used in an office environment including telephone, copier, FAX, microfilm copier, and PC with typical Office programs. Operation of company automobile (valid driver’s license required).

Financial Responsibility:

Manage specified budget items as assigned per corporate guidelines.

Contacts:

Has frequent contact with stores, third party auditors, and office personnel.

Confidentiality:

Has access to select confidential corporate and store information.
