The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking a senior staff level Geologist, Environmental Scientist or Environmental Engineer to join our environmental department and growing practice. We are looking for a motivated and dedicated professional with attention to detail, a passion to continually develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team. The position provides excellent long-term professional opportunities for candidates to develop their technical, project management, client service, and business development skills to advance their careers.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and manage subcontractors and execute environmental field work including site reconnaissance, subsurface exploration, monitoring well installation, soil sampling, groundwater sampling, surface water sampling, air/vapor sampling and monitoring/remediation activities

  • Manage and coordinate activities of other field personnel

  • Use GIS and GPS to aid in planning and executing environmental field work

  • Utilize or have the ability to learn data management systems such as EQuIS for data collection and reporting

  • Use environmental monitoring equipment in the field

  • Assist senior personnel in the preparation of environmental reports including groundwater monitoring reports, site investigation and remediation reports, Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, hazardous building materials surveys, and other compliance reporting

  • Prepare test boring logs during drilling and perform field logging during other subsurface exploration or well installation

  • QA/QC field data and components of report deliverables

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Environmental Science or Environmental Engineering from an ABET-accredited program

  • 2 to 4 years of professional experience in environmental geology, hydrogeology or environmental engineering

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Positive attitude

  • Ability to multi-task

  • Strong work ethic and a desire for continual self-improvement

  • Strong organizational and time management skills

  • Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last a few weeks away from the office

  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, enter trenches per applicable OSHA standards, climb ladders to access elevated spaces and building rooftops, and work outside in potentially challenging weather conditions

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Asbestos Inspector certification is a plus

  • Lead Inspector certification is a plus

  • Ability to obtain PG or PE license preferred
