The construction of fairlife's manufacturing facility in Webster, NY is underway. This state-of-the-art, 750k sq ft, greenfield plant is expected to be operational in late 2025 and will lay the foundation for fairlife's next phase of growth as the leading dairy nutrition provider. While coupling the industry's latest technologies and fairlife's operational excellence to build this world-class facility, fairlife plans to hire 250 new employees and bring in approximately 5 million lbs. of milk a day, with room to grow over the coming years.

job purpose:

The Mechanical Engineer continuously evaluates the plant machines for reliability and effectiveness. In fulfilling this role, the Mechanical Engineer works closely with engineering team department members, maintenance, and operations. They provide day-to-day technical support on all aspects of plant machine center operations. The Mechanical Engineer works with maintenance planning and operations to plan and schedule all preventive and predictive maintenance for machines as needed. They will act as plant liaison for new system start up and commissioning by all outside controls contractors and system integrators to ensure proper transfer of documented PLC program changes, manuals, and adequate training on the installation/changes that have been completed.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical direction and leadership for plant packaging subject matter experts of blow molders, case packers, sleeve applicators and palletizers.
  • Determine root cause of reliability failures and implement measures to prevent future events.
  • Analyze machine efficiency and reliability data to identify opportunities for improving performance and to reduce downtime & costs.
  • Design and implement packaging equipment improvement projects and upgrades. Reverse engineer and improve OEM part designs.
  • Provide technical support on machine reliability issues.
  • Troubleshoot a wide range of issues related to the operation of packaging equipment.
  • Work closely with OEM technicians and leverage all available resources to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain and update all relevant documentation for machine centers, such as schematics and manuals.
  • Make data-driven recommendations for critical spare parts to be maintained in internal inventory.
  • Validate and characterize new processes, equipment, and fixtures for production implementation, prioritizing damage-free performance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

skills/qualifications required:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing) or equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of related engineering and high-speed manufacturing experience.
  • Mechanical design and reverse engineering experience (SolidWorks, Creo, FARO, Geomagic).
  • Solid technical understanding of automated equipment (PLCs, instrumentation, actuators, valves, pumps, motors, and mechanisms).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), with a strong preference for Studio 5000
  • Proven ability to lead teams and drive improvement in technical disciplines.
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment

working conditions:

  • Sitting/Standing/Walking: Stands, walks, and sits during completion of job responsibilities.
  • Lifting/Carrying: Occasional lifting requirements as job demands. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced high demand production facilities and the ability to be able to perform those duties.

  • Notify supervision of any repairs or adjustments that are required that may affect product quality or food safety.
  • Understand, observe, and comply with the handling and usage of the color-coded container policy while in the Production Areas.
  • Perform all duties necessary to meet Company, Customer and/or Government requirements/standards as prioritized by the Company.
  • Ability to initiate action to prevent the occurrence of nonconformities relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the product, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Identify and record any problems relating to Food Safety and the Quality of the ingredients, processes, quality system, or safety system.
  • Control further processing or delivery of nonconforming product in terms of Food Safety and Quality issues until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • In the event of absence, another employee with the same skill level will assume the duties and responsibilities as required.

Base pay range:
$110,000$120,000 USD
