Senior Engineer - Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will work with an enormous breadth of data to design and develop data science applications. Collaborating with business owners, subject matter experts, and go-to-market teams, you will build innovative solutions to support clinical trials, optimize their design and execution, and improve risk management.

You will be involved in every stage of the product development lifecycle, working with data scientists to turn prototypes into well-abstracted reusable services, and build software to expose data science models to business users through responsive UIs. Supporting a culture of continuous improvement, you will also provide architectural guidance, shape coding standards, and mentor engineers and data scientists.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Consistently deliver robust, high-quality, reliable engineering outcomes in cross-functional autonomous scrum teams.

  • Develop automated CI/CD pipelines that deploy to both on-premises clusters and the cloud.

  • Research current and emerging industry tools and techniques, sharing findings with colleagues.

  • Improve product quality through rigorous automated testing and continuous integration.

  • Coordinate with data scientists, facilitating their development and helping them write production-grade code.

  • Drive curiosity and innovation, establishing and enforcing standards.

  • Facilitate cross-team knowledge sharing.

  • Design and lead engineering efforts for building business applications.

  • Collaborate with engineers and leaders from other organizations inside the company.

  • Support product owners by understanding business requirements and helping the team break these into stories.

  • Lead cross-team exercises, including DevOps incident management bridges.

  • Lead documentation efforts for product architecture and security compliance.

  • Lead security assessments and product readiness evaluations.

  • Perform code reviews and provide constructive feedback for work submitted by other engineers.

  • Consistently apply SDLC processes.

  • Mentor interns, apprentices, and other engineers.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of relevant collaborative software engineering experience.

  • 2+ years full-time engineering experience across at least two different companies.

  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals.

  • Expert familiarity with backend development (Python) or frontend development using a JavaScript framework such as React.js, with familiarity in both areas required.

  • Experience designing applications using a microservices architecture.

  • Knowledge of Kubernetes or another container orchestration platform.

  • Experience with relational databases.

  • Experience deploying code into production through CI/CD tools.

  • Experience building RESTful APIs.

  • Knowledge of Linux command line tools.

  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of product development lifecycle.

  • Demonstrated aptitude for and interest in peer mentorship.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of Agile methodology and experience working in a collaborative Agile environment.

  • Previous experience evaluating the security of an application.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, etc.)

  • Experience with building, testing, measuring, and deploying machine learning models in production.

  • Experience working with large volumes of complex data with workflow management tools like Airflow.

  • Experience with non-relational databases.

  • Knowledge of UX principles.

  • Experience working in the Hadoop ecosystem.

  • Experience with the clinical domain and regulated data.

  • Prior management training (while this is not a management role).

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $129,000.00 - $215,000.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
