DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE Revenue Auditor 1 in WAUSAU, Wisconsin

Revenue Auditors fill a variety of roles (https://www.revenue.wi.gov/Pages/Employment/auditors.aspx) and are assigned to work with specific tax areas: Corporation, Excise, Individual Income, Income Reconstruction, Nexus, Pass-Through Entities (Partnerships and S-Corporations), and Sales/Use. Assignment to a specific tax area will be based on agency needs. Auditor positions provide a built-in career path. New auditors are expected to learn and gain experience in auditing and tax law. When this knowledge and experience is gained, it is possible to progress to additional levels. Salary increases occur as you move through the progression series. Return Auditors examine tax returns, correspond with taxpayers for additional information and prepare audit work papers and reports from an office location. Little to no travel is required. Books & Records Auditors conduct audits of individuals and a variety of business entities independently and may assist higher level auditors in performing large, complex audits. Many audits are initiated and conducted at the taxpayer\'s business location. Please address the following in your letter of qualifications and rsum: Qualified candidates will have one of the following: 1) Completed or in the process of completing (within 6 months), a bachelor\'s degree or advanced degree with a major in accounting or taxation from an accredited institution; ---OR--- 2) Professional experience in auditing records and/or procedures to verify accuracy/conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS). Examples of experience might include: a) Conducting tax, financial, or internal control audits of accounting or financial records (e.g., verifying account balances, reviewing general ledgers, accounting entries and cash flows, and similar activities for material errors or other misstatements). b) Preparing tax business entity income/franchise tax returns from financial records. ---OR--- 3) A combination of academic preparation and experience auditing or preparing accounting records in conformity with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS). Effective verbal and written communication skills will be evaluated at a later stage in the selection process. **Job Details** The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) will conduct a background check, fingerprint check and tax compliance check prior to making an offer to hire.
