JOB SUMMARY: The Sr Associate Engineer is responsible for providing support to the Engineering lab and Compliance teams regarding emissions test equipment, test setup, facility needs, equipment maintenance, troubleshooting and Data Acquisition under limited supervision. Partnering with Engineering, Compliance, and other Lab functions to determine specific test equipment and resource needs to support test execution. Should be able to communicate effectively, document work, create procedures, create and provide trainings, manage vendors, and coordinate PM schedules.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience

  • 20 years of engineering experience in product design for engine/motor driven machinery, equipment or powered tools

  • 10 years of experience mentoring others

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 15 years of experience in generator or engine design work solving complex problems requiring analytical and mechanical skills

  • 7 years’ experience using Windchill PLM and SAP or comparably complex ERP systems and data management tools

  • Strong experience working on multiple projects and with cross functional groups on new product design and development

  • Experience with complex parts and assemblies

  • In-depth knowledge of emission testing of ICE base products

  • Proficiency working with thermocouples, pressure sensors, and other electrical & mechanical sensors

  • Proficiency working with Data Acquisition Systems.

  • Experience participating in a team-based environment with some project leadership experience

  • Experience in electrical loading and AC & DC power generation systems.

  • Experience in electrical & mechanical design, componentry, and ability to create and interpret schematics & blueprints

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Testing & Support:

  • Support emissions test equipment and setup for product testing per procedures.

  • Ensure Daily and Monthly emissions checks are performed and documented, consistently and accurately.

  • Troubleshoot issues and manage vendors to drive resolution for open cases.

  • Develop standard operating procedures for emissions test equipment.

  • Assist emissions operators as necessary and identify training opportunities.

  • Perform and manage fuel sampling and fuel data within the test systems.

  • Maintain emissions equipment for calibration, functionality, and operation in accordance of ISO 17025 and the Laboratory Scope of Operations.

  • Respond to and be pro-active about lab support requests in a timely manner, effectively, efficiently, and drive to resolution.

  • Actively participate in product, facility, and test equipment improvements.

Clerical:

  • Correlate and document test data using proper forms and procedure for engineering.

  • Maintain test-related documentation in database environment.

  • Lead and support calibration of emissions test equipment and instrumentation.

  • Assist with Generac Engineering Laboratory Audits and organizational 5S programs.

  • Update and develop policies and procedures supporting the continuous improvement of the Engineering Lab.

Other Duties:

  • Collaborate with Engineers for planning of testing requirements.

  • Mentor and train developing Technicians and Engineers.

  • Regular contact with vendors and service providers.

  • Recommend laboratory and facilities equipment needs.

  • Familiarity with AVL emissions test equipment, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance

  • Expert conceptualization, visualization and creativity

  • Superior time management, prioritization & analytical problem solving.

  • Ability to perform and oversee detail-oriented work with high degree of accuracy

  • Demonstrate aptitude to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Lead and complete projects within guidelines

  • Demonstrate self-motivation

  • Work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment

  • Communicate effectively through written and oral means

  • Manage and participate in project design, development, and implementation

  • Understand and apply advanced electrical techniques and theories

  • Create and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics

  • Demonstrated understanding of quality concepts, continuous improvement, statistical techniques, and preventative/corrective actions

  • Knowledge of and contribution to a continuous safe work environment

  • Coaches, mentors less experienced technicians and Engineers

  • Complies with record-keeping and file sharing conventions

  • Adaptable, able to adjust to ongoing changes and improvements

Level of Independence :

This position acts under the direction of the Lab Operations Manager

Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
