Generac Power Systems – Work with the leader in the power industry! Our office in Waukesha, WI is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer – Power Generation Technology for our Advance Commercial Technology Team.

In this role, the Principal Mechanical Engineer will participate in identifying, evaluating, and developing new technologies that support future products in the area of power generation including internal combustion engines, fuel cells, and adjacent technologies.

This role will require participation in the creation of a technology portfolio in consensus with the strategic direction of the company. As part of the Advanced Commercial Technology group this position reports to the Director of Engineering (ACT)

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of key engine technologies and their applications to future products.

  • Maintain a data base of state-of-the-art technologies and trends relative to Internal Combustion engines, material science, thermal management, and develop an understanding of competitors’ products and technical capabilities

  • Research state of the art power generation technologies and track the competitive landscape

  • Contribute to the development of future products and technology roadmaps and strategies

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams

  • Mentor other members of the team and organization.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

  • 15+ years of relevant work experience

  • Experience with internal combustion engine development.

  • Experienced in engine and thermal analysis

  • Ability to perform bench and system testing of technologies

  • Strong ability to communicate across the department as well with internal and external stakeholders

Additional Skills Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree or PhD in Engineering or directly equivalent degree

  • Advanced knowledge of combustion processes in internal combustion engines

  • Demonstrated written communication and presentation skills

  • Demonstrated data analysis skills

  • Knowledge of engine controls

  • Advanced simulation skills

Physical demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
